Chinatown, lying in Downtown L.A. near the city’s cultural center, is one of L.A.’s most popular tourist destinations.
I had been heading to Chinatown for about 6 years to hang out until 2012, when I became a member of the neighborhood. After moving in, I started to explore every corner of this amazing place.
A MECCA FOR FOOD
In Chinatown, a mix of new and old restaurants meets everyone’s needs. You can find dim sum at Ocean Seafood and tasty banh mi at Golden Lake Eatery. The cuisine in Chinatown goes beyond Asian food. People are still lining up for fried chicken at Howlin’ Ray’s.
Early birds should stop by Philippe The Original, a local restaurant that’s beloved for French Dip sandwiches, but also serves a good classic American breakfast. Night owls will want to head to Full House Seafood on Hill Street, which is open late into the night.
CHINESE AMERICAN MUSEUM
Food is far from the only reason to visit Chinatown. People interested in history will want to start their trip at the Chinese American Museum (CAM), lying just outside of Chinatown at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. The museum is housed in the Garnier Building, the oldest surviving Chinese building in a major area of California.
CENTRAL PLAZA
A big statue of Bruce Lee has become a must-photograph site in Chinatown’s Central Plaza. The late martial arts star once had a studio in Chinatown at 628 W.College St.
Nearby is Dragon Chasing Pearl, which was originally painted on the wall in 1941 by Tyrus Wong. The artist, who passed away in December 2016 at age 106, was famous for his work in films, particularly as the lead artist on Disney’s Bambi.

Now, not just the blind, but even people who can see with their eyes gather together in groups to this restaurant for the special experience it provides, apart from the good food it offers. The restaurant is so popular that all the tables are always booked ahead of time.
The idea came to Spielmann while he was working as bartender (酒保) in 1998 at a public exhibit, where people with normal sight walked through completely dark passages by feeling with hands together along with blind people. Then Spielmann changed an unused house into a 60-seat restaurant.
The Blind Cow enables customers who can see to “see” a different world through the eyes of people with no sight. Besides, as no one can see what the others are doing, something like these is common: People put fingers into the meat, the wrong forks are used and people even wipe their mouths on their sleeves (袖子) instead of napkins!
Before entering the dining area, the customers are told the rules of the restaurant: no walking around, no smoking and no flashlights. When arriving, the customers are led in by a waitress with bells tied to her toes. Forming a chain led by the waitress, with hands placed on each others shoulders, the customers walk inside. When the customers want something, they shout to catch the attention of the waitresses.
The bells on the waitresses’ toes help prevent them from bumping (撞) into each other while carrying dishes. Though they admit to some unavoidable bumps, the workers at the Blind Cow say that they don’t have more broken things than any other restaurant. Customers to the restaurant are extra careful not to knock things over.

C.The social skills. | D.The taste of dishes. |

Keep Shower Doors Spotless Longer Waterrepelling sprays (such as RainX) aren't just great for your car. Applying a coat to your shower doors will prevent the buildup of mildew(霉菌) and other residue.
Pick Up Glass Fragments Easily Collecting the larger pieces of a broken glass or dish is usually easy enough, but picking up those tiny slivers and shards can be tricky. One way to do it is to press a slice of soft bread over the area. Just be careful not to cut yourself when you toss the bread in the garbage.
Sweeten Your Yogurt Without Sugar Flavored yogurts often contain dozens of grams of sugar, but plain yogurt can be pretty blah. The Book of Delights by Ross Gay
This volume of essays from poet Ross Gay offers a glimpse of nearly every small thing and every simple happy moment on a daily basis for a year. Along the way, he reflects on nature, race, and our connections to each other. Whether you’re traveling or staying at home for the summer, it’s the perfect read to inspire observing every little corner of the world with a bit more care and delight.
Travels with My Aunt by Graham Greene
An incurious, retired English banker, Henry Pulling, travels the world with his odd Aunt Augusta after they meet at his mother’s funeral. Henry visits a church for dogs in Brighton, smokes on a train and lands in a jail after blowing his nose on a red scarf honoring the government. Traveling with Henry out of his comfort zone is a delightful journey.
The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer
The title of the novel is the name of a group of teens at an arts summer camp. It’s about how they do or don’t fulfill their potential as they grow into adulthood. But really it’s about how friends help you see — and become — yourself. It’s wonderful and juicy and so interesting.
Act One by Moss Hart
I’d never heard the term “second-acting” until I read Moss Hart’s firsthand account of jumping the 1920s crowds in his teens, so he could sneak (溜) in with them to enjoy Broadway jokes and songs. The story tells how Hart rose from poverty to write classic comedies and directed My Fair Lady. “Reading of his exploration is what brought me back to my own childhood.”
