Here are some of the world’s most unusual events.
☆ World Ice Golf (高尔夫) championship, Greenland.
For more than 10 years the World Ice Golf championship has been seen as the most extreme golf competition in the world. In 1997, architect Rolf Henning-Jensen was asked to design the world’s first ice golf course among huge icebergs (冰山) and heavy snows of Uummannaq, a small town on the west coast of Greenland- 600km north of the Arctic Circle. There golfers face extreme temperatures as their first task to deal with. Then it will take player time and patience to accommodate themselves to white “green” and orange balls to play with. Determined by weather conditions, this event is scheduled for March each year in Greenland.
☆ Balloon Fiesta, the United States.
Have you ever been taken to the sky in a hot air balloon? The yearly Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta gives you the chance to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the city and countryside. Since 1972, perfect October weather, blue skies and wind known as the “Albuquerque Box” have worked together to allow balloonists to control their way thanks to the direction of blowing winds. This is the only place in the world to enjoy balloons flying in the blue skies each October.
☆ El Colacho, Spain.
The world’s most dangerous festival takes place every year in a small Spanish village Castrillo de Murcia near Burgous. El Colacho means devil’s (魔鬼) jump and in fact this is the act of baby-jumping. Its purpose is to force a devil to leave the child’s body. Men dressed as devils jump over small babies to guard them against illness and bad spirits. Many consider the festival to be dangerous as “jumping devils” could hurt babies. But locals believe the action protects their babies from bad things and organise the jump in the streets, so people can watch or even join.

【推荐1】Bonfire Night, also called Guy Fawkes Night, is celebrated on 5 November, and the night skies all over the UK are filled with colour. It’s a tradition that started with a historic event. For over 400 years, on 5 November, people in Britain have had bonfires and fireworks to remember a historic event.
The history
In 1605, some English Catholics were angry because King James I was treating them badly. James I was a Protestant, and many Catholics wanted a Catholic country. In November of that year, a group of Catholic men made a plan to blow up the government buildings in London, the Houses of Parliament. An enormous explosion was planned for 5 November, when the king was going to open Parliament. The men put 36 barrels of gunpowder below the Houses of Parliament and waited for the king to arrive. The group decided that one of them, named Guy Fawkes, should light the gunpowder and cause the explosion.
Their plan didn’t succeed. The police found the gunpowder before it exploded and they caught all the men involved in the plot. The men were tortured and killed. To celebrate his survival, King James ordered the people of England to have a bonfire on the night of 5 November.
Bonfires, guys and fireworks
These days, Bonfire Night is a fun tradition with a festive atmosphere, and people don’t connect it to religion or politics. All over Britain there are firework displays and bonfires, with models of Guy Fawkes, which are burned on the fire. The guy is made of old clothes, and the clothes are filled with newspaper. The fireworks are a reminder of the gunpowder that Guy Fawkes hid in the Houses of Parliament. Some people have a small bonfire in their garden, while in main towns and cities there are big bonfires and firework displays.
Food
It’s normally quite cold in November in Britain, so on Bonfire Night people wear hats, scarves and gloves to spend the evening outside. Traditional Bonfire Night food includes hot dogs, burgers and hot baked potatoes. The potatoes are cooked on the bonfire and filled with butter and cheese. There are also toffee apples, which are apples on a stick, covered in sweet toffee, and in the north of England there is a special type of cake called parkin. Toasting marshmallows on the bonfire is also popular.
Firework safety
Fireworks in the night sky are beautiful to watch. But fireworks are dangerous and they can hurt people and damage things, so you should always be careful around them. Never light fireworks inside or near other people or buildings, and never hold lit fireworks in your hands. Also, keep your pets inside because they can be scared by the loud bangs. She wrote thousands of letters to congress-men(国会议员), city officials, teachers and newspaper publishers, proposing an official holiday for mothers. She travelled all over America, trying to get support for the idea. Her battle went on for years.
In 1914, the Congress declared the second Sunday in May each year as Mother’s Day. Anna Jarvis wanted Mother’s Day to be a simple event. She thought children could honour their mothers by spending some time with them as an act of love and respect. However, the holiday turned out to be a major event for department stores, flower shops and greeting-card industry, which Miss Jarvis didn’t like.
Americans spend millions of dollars on gifts for their mothers on this day. Younger children often try to prepare and serve breakfast for their mothers. Fathers may offer to take care of children so that mothers can enjoy themselves. The holiday becomes an important time for family gathering.

【推荐3】UNIQUE AND WEIRD NEW YEAR EVE TRADITIONS
Germany
In some parts of Germany, they do bleigiessen, or lead (铅)pouring. Pour a dollop(团)of molten lead in cold water and whatever shape forms may be telling about the year to come. A heart shape, naturally, means love will come your way. A crown predicts wealth and fortune. A star indicates happiness. But if you see a cross in the lead? You're as good as dead!
Latin America
If you're in Latin America, make sure you have some colorful underpants to ring in the new year. End — of — the — year partiers put on colorful underwear to ensure certain types of outcomes for the following year. Red for love and yellow for success.
Naples, Italy
Neapolitans like throwing things out of windows, at least on New Year's Eve. Furniture, kitchen machines, grandma. Well, maybe not the last one. Let's hope not, anyway. This tradition is meant to symbolize an out — with — the — old gesture and getting a brand new beginning for the new year. These days people are a bit more mindful about what they toss down to the street below.
Spain
In 1909, winegrowers in the Alicante region of Spain had a brilliant idea: start and promote an annual tradition that would involve people having to buy and eat more grapes. One must cat 12 grapes on New Year's Eve to encourage prosperity for the coining year. Now, it's u popular custom in Iberia. But the problem is that one has to cat a grape for each bell strike at midnight.

You really have two different questions here, so we’ll discuss them one at a time. Your problems at school may be a result of a number of things. You don’t say much about how these classmates get along with each other. It’s possible that all the students are feeling a little cautious (谨慎的) in the first term.
It’s also possible that the others are unkind. If this is so, you have to find out why you are the class “outsider”.
In your letter you say you often offer to help others with their work. Is it possible that your classmates don’t understand your offers? Could it seem that you were trying to “buy” friends with these offers?
Is it possible that you took no notice of your classmates when you had your good friend near you? They may have felt hurt at that time. It may take a time for them to believe in you if so. Try to ask one classmate directly what the problem is. If you hear a negative (负面的) answer, at least you’ll know what to do.
Yours truly,
Shelia
