Every country has its favorite food. Italians like to eat pizza. Indians like to eat hot food. Japanese like to eat fish.
In England, one of the most popular foods is fish and chips. People usually buy it in a fish and chip shop. They put it in paper bags, and take it home, or to their workplace. Sometimes they eat it in the park or on the road. American fast food is the most popular in the world. In a lot of big cities in the world, you can find people eating hamburgers and chips.
Fish and chips, and Chinese take-away food are very popular in England. But they are less popular in the USA. The Americans eat take-away food, too, like chicken. Yangrou paomo
Yangrou paomo, or pita bread soaked in lamb soup, is another signature food of Xi’an. The main ingredient in this mouth-watering dish is mutton and pita bread. The hard bread is torn into small pieces and added to a bowl, then topped with stewed and sliced mutton, scallion, coriander and chili, and then the soup is poured over all of it.
Biangbiang noodles
Biangbiang noodles (stewed-pork hand-ripped noodles) are thick, fat and long. Each noodle is three fingers wide, spiraling down into a big bowl. It is served dry, with toppings of chili and pork belly in alternating layers of fat and lean meat. Biangbiang noodles are famous not only for their distinctive taste, but also for the name, the character of which is so complicated that many Chinese don’t know how to write it. Biang refers to the sound chefs make when they pull the dough into noodles and bang them against the table.
Dumpling
A visit to Xi’an is not complete unless you try the dumplings. They are made in different shapes, colors and flavors — sour, sweet or peppery. The dumplings have different fillings. Cooking methods have also expanded, from boiling to frying.
Rougamo
Ancient Chinese called it “Rou jia yu mo zhong”, which means the meat is inside the bun (a kind of small bread). The most important part of “Rougamo” is the special sauce meat. According to the history record, “Rougamo” first found in book is in Qin Dynasty, which was called “Hanmo”. “Rougamo” is not only a sign of the ancient city, but also a sign of Chinese traditional foods.

Consumers' attitudes are being put to the test at Adelaide Central Market with an offering of roasted crickets and ants, mealworm cookies and cricket energy bars.
Researchers want to further probe consumers' attitudes towards edible insects, and evaluate taste preferences and consumers5 willingness to buy such products. In an earlier online survey of 820 Australian consumers, the researchers found that 20% had tried edible insects. Of those surveyed, 46% said they'd be willing to try a cookie made from insect flour.
" In the earlier survey, consumers said they were most likely to try flavored or roasted insects and least likely to want to try cockroaches or spiders," Dr Crump says. "In this taste test, we've chosen products that consumers are most likely to react positively towards―apologies to anyone keen to try a cockroach or spider. The samples we'll be offering consumers provide a good spread of the available insect products in Australia' s marketplaces, some of which may be more acceptable than others."
Dr Crump says the research will help guide the development of an edible insect industry. In Australia, edible insects remain a new agricultural industry. Consumer research is needed to improve consumer acceptance of edible insects, so as to realize their potential as an alternative protein(蛋白质)source.
Professor Kerry Wilkinson says edible insects could play a role in global food security. "Problems such as climate change, increasing global population, shortage of agricultural land and rapidly changing consumer preferences are common, particularly in developing countries where there is an increasing demand for high quality animal protein," he says. "These food security problems will only be overcome by a change in food consumption habits. Edible insects could provide one solution. We want to look at ways of overcoming barriers to insect consumption in Australia.
1. What does the underlined word "probe" in paragraph 2 most probably mean?A.Explore. | B.Influence. | C.Describe. | D.Compare. |
A.Because they are richer in protein than other insects. |

I’m kicking off this week’s blog by talking about a fantastic new Turkish restaurant in Soho called Moda. I can’t remember ever eating better dolma or hummus — it was so delicious! The chef insists that fruit and vegetables are brought over every day from Turkey — and from nowhere else. He may be a perfectionist, but it was so delicious that I can’t complain. Moda isn’t cheap, but it’s worth every penny.
And I’ve got great news for you. When I told him that I write a food blog, he said he’d give all my readers a 10% discount! Just mention this blog when you book.
A very different restaurant, where I had lunch last Monday, is Chez Fitz. Situated near Leicester Square, its main selling point is that its food is all locally sourced (within 30 kilometers of the restaurant). My friends and I were completely surprised — we had no idea that so much could be grown so close to central London. But it turns out that there are pockets of green all over the city — you just need to know where to look.
One final point: I couldn’t believe how pricey my weekly shop was this week. Normally its about £40, but this week it was more than £55 for more or less the same amount of food. Any ideas why?
More in a couple of weeks as I’m going away on my holiday tomorrow.

Ecovore
I am not sure if we should be supporting restaurants like Moda. They are very bad for the environment. What about all the extra carbon emissions from the “food miles” created by bringing over those ingredients from Turkey?
LondonMum
I know what you’re saying, Ecovor, but don’t have a go at restaurants like Moda. If we grow foreign vegetables in the U.K., then we have to use heated greenhouses and that probably uses even more energy.

We did our survey during lunchtime, so students wouldn’t get too hungry answering our question. And this time we were able to ask more than 450 students to take our survey. That’s almost all the students at our school!
For our survey, we let students pick their three favorite toppings. Some students only choose one or two toppings. That was OK, too.
Here's what we discovered from our survey. The two most popular things to put on pizza are pepperoni(意大利辣肠) and extra cheese. That isn't so surprising. When we order pizza here in the Newsletter office, those are the kinds of pizza we always get!
An unexpected result of this survey is that lots of people like fruit on their pizza. 288 students said they liked to put pineapple on their pizza. If you haven't tried pineapple on your pizza, you should. Lots of people think it's delicious!
We hope you enjoyed taking this survey. We enjoyed your answers. And next time you invite your friends over for pizza, be sure to order an extra large pizza with pepperoni and extra cheese.
That’s the one people like the most.

It is reported that scientists have discovered that coral reefs are even more effective than man-made sea walls under the water. However, coral reefs are especially easy to be influenced by climate change. Overfishing and pollution have also proved very dangerous to them. Since 1950, half of the world’s coral reefs have already been lost. To protect our communities and keep sea ecosystems alive, we need to protect coral reefs right away.
Let’s take a closer look at how coral reefs protect us from floods, and how scientists are restoring (修复) reefs.
The roles that coral reefs play as underwater walls have long been recorded by scientists. During a Category 3 hurricane in 2015 in Australia, the coral reefs effectively protected the eastern shoreline from flooding. In contrast, the western coasts without coral reefs suffered serious damage. The researchers observed that the shape of coral reefs can break the approaching waves. More recently, researchers at the University of Miami have reached the same conclusion. They used a special lab simulator to recreate ocean conditions during a Category 5 hurricane. They found that coral reefs could reduce the impact of waves by up to 95 percent!
Because of higher ocean acidity (酸 性) and temperature, coral reefs are disappearing and dying out. At the same time, climate change puts weakened coral reefs under more stress. The University of Miami researchers are testing to plant new coral reefs while others are actively looking for effective methods to reduce the acidity of sea water. The governments have also paid more attention to these actions and provided enough money for reef restoration. With these efforts, we may address climate threats to coral reefs and they can carry on protecting our communities.

OceanGate Expeditions announced its second annual expedition to the wreck in the summer of 2022. The Titanic Expedition is conducted as a series of eight-day missions starting in May and ending in June 2022, and each seat costs $250, 000.
Aaron Newman, OceanGate Expedition Mission Specialist during the 2021 trip, said in a statement: “This is one of the most interesting and unique experiences I have ever had. Less than around 200 people have ever been down to the Titanic and seen the wreck in 110 years. Even diving to almost 4000 meters in a submersible (潜水器) is an experience onto itself. That’s what life is about.”
The citizen explorers will begin their adventure by sailing on the expedition ship from St. John’s in Newfoundland, Canada, to the site of the Titanic wreckage, located 370 miles away. The Titan submersible is equipped with the latest camera technologies to capture ultra-high-resolution imagery (超高清影像) that will help determine the wreck’s rate of decay and assess the marine life that dwell on it. An experienced submersible pilot, P. H. Nargeolet said in a statement: “We have a lot of room inside the Titan submersible. We can have five people in the sub and there is a big view port.”
The Titanic, which was called the “unsinkable ship”, went down on April 14, 1912, four days into her first voyage from Southampton, England to New York. The giant ship collided with an iceberg and in the end, 1,517 of the 2,224 passengers and crew aboard died.
According to the National Oceanic and Atomspheric Adminstration, te ship is likely to collapse within the next 40 years.

The first one is about drinking. Now, you may not buy alcohol (酒) in this country if you are under 18 years of age, nor may your friends buy it for you.
Secondly, noise. Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please don’t make unnecessary noise, particularly at night. We ask you to respect other people who may wish to be quiet.
Thirdly, crossing the road. Be careful! The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country. Use pedestrian crossings (人行横道) and do not take any chances when crossing the road.
My next point is about litter (throwing away waste material in a public place). It is an offence (违法行为) to drop litter in the street. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin.
Finally, as regards something, it is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco (烟草) if you are under 16 years of age.
I’d like to finish by saying that if you require any sort of help or assistance, you should contact your local police station, who will be pleased to help you.
Now, are there any questions?
