During the summer holiday, I had the chance to visit Pingtang County, Guizhou Province. It’s an experience I will never forget.

Traveling to Guizhou by high-speed rail from Beijing, I     1    (astonish) by the rapid change in scenery from skyscrapers to beautiful tree-filled mountains     2    (rest) under a clear blue sky.

Upon arrival, I visited the Pingtang International Experience Planetarium, which displays     3    (remark) achievements in science and space technology. The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) there is the largest one of     4    (it) kind in the world. To visit FAST, visitors are not permitted     5    (bring) any electronic devices due to security measures,     6     they must record this once-in-a-lifetime moment with their hearts and minds.

    7    (undoubted), my favorite part of the trip was my personal interaction with the local community. Following the instructions, I worked on two community farms, where I went hiking and swam in a fresh community river. I was educated on the regional history of the Miao people,     8     culture is rich in fashion, food, pottery and music.

After this adventure, my     9    (appreciate) for Chinese culture has snowballed. While I am content living and working in Beijing, Pingtang County in Guizhou has opened my eyes     10     the endless positive possibilities China has to offer.

An Australian Nanjinger, Townley, loves the rivers in Nanjing. He rides a bike along the bank of a river to the Nanjing Fishmouth Wetland Park in Jianye District every Saturday and Sunday mornings, about a 15-km round trip. He enjoys     1     (hang) around the city in his spare time. In addition, he feels it a pleasure to visit a variety of     2     (museum) in the city.

According to Townley, Nanjing is in an ideal location in one corner of the Yangtze River Delta region, close to Shanghai. Now, Townley works with and     3     (support) by the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute and serves     4     a visiting professor at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Nanjing Tech University. After being a     5     (consult) and in the industry years, he loves being connected to a university again     6     (share) his knowledge and experience with younger people. He also loves to carry out research     7     (base) on the problems he has encountered in the real world. “I know my education and life are different from the     8     (type) Chinese student. Despite the differences,     9     I want to do with my Chinese students is to encourage them to think, to be curious     10     to always search for new things.”

Last summer, my family     1     (plan) a trip to Shanghai City. Besides my hometown, Hong Kong, I had never been to such a great city.

I     2     (impress) by what I saw there. There were many more ways     3     my hometown for one to get to one place from another. Everywhere people were driving, riding shared bikes, waiting for buses,     4     rushing underground to the subway stations.

In addition to the people and transportation, I found the buildings were     5     (amaze). Each street was filled with buildings     6     were built side by side and a number of skyscrapers were present throughout the city as well.

    7    (stand) on the top of the Oriental Pearl Tower, I could hold almost the entire city from this view. Some stores were also as large or even larger than the ones in my hometown.

My visit to Shanghai City was like discovering a new way of life. I felt anxious     8     (grow) up and I dream about moving to such a great city. My     9     (one) trip to Shanghai City was one of the most unforgettable     10     (experience) of my life.

My husband, our children and I     1     (have) wonderful camping experiences over the past ten years.

Some of our     2     (memory)are funny, especially from the early years when our children were little. Once, we camped along Chalk Creek (小溪). I was worried that our 15-month-old boy would fall     3    the creek. I tied a rope around his waist to keep him near to our spot,     4     he was uncomfortable, and his crying let the whole campground know it.So instead of     5     (tie) him up, I just kept a close eye on him. It worked —he didn’t end up in the creek. My three-year-old, however, did.

Another time, we rented a boat in Vallecito Lake. The sky was clear     6    we headed off, but storms moved in fast in the mountains, and this one quickly interrupted our peaceful morning trip. My husband stopped fishing     7     (start) the motor. Nothing. He tried again. Noluck. We were stuck in the middle of the lake with a dead motor. As we all sat there     8     (helpless), a fisherman pulled up, threw us a rope and towed (拖) us back by     9     (he). We were safe.

Now, every year when my husband pulls our camper out of the garage, we are filled with a sense of     10     (excite), wondering what camping fun and adventure we will experience next.

Two men were walking on a path in the mountain     1     it cracked below their feet, leaving them     2     (stick) at the top of what remained.

When the rescue party arrived on the scene, one man     3     (seat) at the top of the steep slope while the other was lying down on the rocky ground below, holding onto his friend’s leg.     4     the time rescuers arrived, he had been holding on to his friend for 45 minutes.

The helicopter,     5     came to their rescue, flew about 100 feet above the two men     6     (avoid) removing any of the ground. The two were not only on unstable ground, but one of them was holding the other. Therefore, the rescue work was very difficult. The rescue workers had to be extremely careful as the conditions underfoot were just too     7     (predict).

One of the rescue workers went down on the wire from the helicopter and managed to quickly secure a rope around the     8     (low) of the two men, before lifting him to the aircraft. The same procedure was repeated for his walking partner.

The two walkers raised     9     alarm at 11:05 a.m. on Sunday and were rescued within one hour or so. Neither of them was injured but they were left “very shaken” by the experience. Both walkers were said to be experienced and well     10     (equip).
