After the Wichita State University men’s basketball team beat the team from Tarleton State on Tuesday, Dexter Dennis stayed to help staff (员工) at Koch Arena clean the stadium.
Dennis helped lead the Shockers to success, but he didn’t show off. Instead, the soft-spoken college junior from Louisiana did something very humble (谦逊的). The video from the court shows him picking up rubbish in the stands. No one asked him to do it.
The video was shared on Twitter by Taylor Eldridge, who covers Wichita State athletics for The Wichita Eagle newspaper. “Dexter is a different kind of guy,” Eldridge tweeted (发推文). The video quickly circulated, which received more than 1.5 million views and tens of thousands of likes.
“Wasn’t in trouble or anything. Didn’t have to. He just wanted to help out the cleaning workers,” Eldridge wrote in another tweet.
“Cleanup can take up to three hours after every game,” Wichita State University Facilities Director David Gomez said. “Seeing a student athlete staying to help is inspiring.”
“We have several people who have been here for many years and I know for some of them, that’s probably the first time they’ve seen something like that happen,” said Gomez. “And I want to say thank you for leading and showing us that there are still people out there who recognize the hard work that’s done around here.”
Dennis refused KWCH’s offer for an interview, but did address the moment on Twitter. “Didn’t do it for attention,” Dennis tweeted.
He played for 30 minutes during the game, hitting three of four shots from the field and also entering the top 10 all time for career three-pointers in Shocker history, KWCH reports.

“I was squeezing lemons, and when I finished, I could not get up or even move my legs, so I went to the hospital and did an X-ray examination, but they saw nothing. Meanwhile, I could not walk and was in a wheelchair,” the retired worker said. Hence Miranda decided to visit the herbal facility. “On two occasions, I had to do acupuncture(针灸), and I have found great relief. Now I walk unaided, so I keep coming for treatment,” she said.
As Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is gaining popularity in Ghana, many acupuncture clinics run by Chinese doctors pop up in the country. However, the China Traditional Herbal Hospital was established by 52-year-old Ghanaian business owner Bediako, after his fruitful encounter with the effects of TCM in 2012. With the help of a Chinese lady, Bediako set up a small clinic specializing in TCM. Years on, the facility has subsequently grown into a bigger herbal hospital. The hospital treats patients with a combination of local and Chinese herbal formulas. It supports this with the application of traditional Chinese medical methods.
Strokes(中风) account for 1.3 percent of all hospital admissions in Ghana, and 6.3 percent of all hospital deaths. But Bediako is confident that as more people with these conditions turn to the natural methods of healing, the pain and death rates would subside. “A gentleman was brought here three weeks ago, who could not sit, stand, or walk. He was first taken through acupuncture. I observed him on camera 30 minutes later, squatting(蹲), standing, and walking. You come here with your pain but will leave with a smile. That is our feature,” he said.
The hospital has started a second facility in Ashaiman near the capital, with plans to open other branches across the country to meet the growing demand.

The two merrily began to sing the movie’s big song, “Let It Go”. You would swear they were celebrating at the most magical place on earth, but this wasn’t Disney World. It was the pediatric(儿科)cancer ward at a hospital on Long Island in New York. And the princess was a college student volunteering for A Moment of Magic, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to lift the spirits of sick children, which has 400 volunteers from 11 colleges around the country.
It all began with a movie Frozen. Kylee McGrane, now 23, noticed that she and Elsa had matching blond hair and big blue eyes. At that time, she was searching for a new community project, ideally one with kids. That sparked an idea—dressing up as Disney princesses and visiting pediatric cancer patients.
“When kids are in a hospital for so long, they don’t get all the magic that most kids do,” says McGrane. “It’s nice to give them time to be themselves.” In 2015, after raising $2,000 on a Go Fund Me page to pay for costumes and travel expenses, McGrane and her friend landed their first gig, at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. They dressed as Elsa and her sister, Anna, to the squealing delight of the girls and blushing smiles from the boys. “To see the kids believe in me, my character…It was life changing,” says McGrane.
They also have a growing kingdom of fans. Shara Moskowitz from New Jersey says that her seven-year-old daughter, Avery, still talks almost every day by phone or text to the princesses she met nearly two years ago at her birthday party. Avery was receiving treatment for a neuroblastoma(成神经细胞瘤). “My daughter found something that she really needed to connect to,” says Moskowitz. “These girls gave her that moment of imagination, freedom, and happiness of dreaming”.

One day Logan pointed to a drawer in McWilliams’ class, filled with broken laptops —all considered garbage, and asked if he could try fixing one of those. Of course she agreed. What McWilliams didn’t expect was that the 17- year - old came back a couple days later with three completely repaired, working computers. “Amazing,” McWilliams said, “I think he knows more about hardware than I do.”
Although Logan looks like the typical teenager, he is a computer talent with a desire to give. Since that project, Logan estimates he’s fixed and donated about $30,000 worth of computers, including MacBooks and PCs. He said he does it because he enjoys it and it reduces e-waste.
E-waste, abandoned(废弃的) electrical or electronic devices, is a growing problem across the world. It has bad effects on people and the environment. Giving away the computers to someone in need prevents them from harming the environment, Logan said. Plus he gets to brighten someone else’s day. A computer can open up more possibilities for children and teenagers, he said. MacBooks can cost upward of $1,000 and are unaffordable for many students.
Logan does all the repairs on the carpet of his bedroom floor — the mess drives his parents crazy, but they’re supportive. Logan’s dad, Kristopher Ober, said you can find monitors, laptops, tools and parts lying across his son’s room. “I’m really proud of him,” his dad said. “He’s looking to give back to the society. I just think it’s wonderful for someone young like him to do that.”
