Bark Cover Price: $19.80 Price: $15.00 ($2.50/issue (期) ) You save: $4.80 (24%) Review: By Pat Kane I absolutely love Bark magazine! I love the “smiling” pages and the tips on every issue. I am a dog lover and have saved all of my dogs from either death row or from people who were going to put them down. Everyone should have a chance to live and Bark stresses that with its articles. This magazine is a MUST HAVE for any dog lover! |
Dog Fancy Cover Price: $54.00 Price: $14.99 ($1.25/issue) You save: $39.01 (72%) Review: By Berner Mom Don’t waste your money on this magazine. 60-70 percent of it are advertisements, and the articles offer little useful information. It might be suitable for children, but not adults who are serious about educating themselves about dogs. |
Dog World Cover Price: $48.88 Price: $14.99 ($1.25/issue) You save: $33.89 (69%) Review: By one critic Dog World has many very interesting and thought-provoking articles for people involved in dog showing, breeding, performance events, etc. However, over half of the magazine is devoted to breeder ads, which is boring. Still, as a whole, I recommend it for the articles. Good articles, but tons of ads. |

Trolls
If you’re a parent , you may find this consistent cheeriness super annoying . Kids will love it , though . Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake lead an all-star voice cast in this animated musical adventure in which the Trolls try to avoid being captured and swallowed by a group of evil monsters known as the Bergens . Fine for all ages .
Doctor Strange
He is a character your kids may not have heard of before the release of this film : Doctor Stephen Strange , a once-brilliant surgeon who suffers a serious accident , reinvents himself through magic . Tutored by the powerful Ancient One , he becomes a warrior in a battle between good and evil that takes place across various dimensions(维度). Fierce combat and urban destruction in this effects – laden Marvel blockbuster might look frightening for younger viewers . It’s intense but also a lot of fun . OK for kids around 8-10 and older – especially if they’re familiar with the Marvel movies .
Loving
This is a serious , grown-up movie , but its subject is inspiring , which makes it worthwhile for the older kids . Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga star in the drama based on a true story . They were an interracial couple – he was white , and she was black . While the two married legally in Washington DC , they found the practice was still against the law back home in rural Virginia . Their fight to keep their family together , which went all the way to the Supreme Court , changed the laws regarding interracial marriage nationwide . It’s beautifully written , shot and acted , making it appropriate – and recommended – for viewers around 12 and older .

【推荐2】Essential Sounds of America
New Orleans
In the 19th century, slaves gathered on Sunday to play drums, dance and sing in Congo Square. Those exciting rhythms of Africa collided (碰撞) with the sounds of Europe to create Jazz, a significant American art form that has inspired countless generations and spread around the globe. New Orleans jazz has bite and pop. It sweeps you off your feet and makes you jump, clap and sing along.
Chicago
During the Great Migration (1916-1970), when large numbers of African Americans left the South in search of better opportunities, Chicago attracted scores of people. They arrived by thousands, bringing with them the sounds of Mississippi Delta. The blues didn’t originate in Chicago, but it found a new voice there and began to spread its message around the world.
Memphis
Memphis is the birthplace of rock and roll. It was here in Sun Studios during the summer of 1951 that Ike Turner and his band the Delta Cats recorded “Rocket 88” which is widely regarded as the first rock and roll song. But, like so many visionary moments, it happened by accident — the guitarist’s amp (扩音器) broke down during the recording, creating a strange guitar sound that would become a mark of the genre.
Austin
Austin calls itself the “live Music Capital of the World” for good reason. Some cities have more history and others have more big stars, but none have better passionate fans. There are over 250 live music venues in Austin, more per capita than anywhere in the country.
1. Where does jazz come from?A.New Orleans. | B.Chicago. | C.Memphis. | D.Austin. |
