Whenever travelers planning to Hawaii are surveyed, their first question is often the same: “How’s the weather in Hawaii?” Most of the time, the answer is pretty easy. After all. Hawaii experiences only two seasons; summer. called “kau”, and winter. called “hooilo”.
Temperatures in Hawaii
During summer, the islands experience an average temperature of around 29°C. This is also the start of the dry season and mostly perfect weather across the board. Even though summer is the islands’ dry season. hurricanes are also more common during this period. Winter runs from November through April in Hawaii. Temperatures aren’t much colder than summer, averaging around 26°C. This is the rainier part of the year across most islands. While winter temperatures don’t drop too significantly, surf is much higher, making swimming risky. Not surprisingly, this season is popular among big-time surfers.
What to pack
Given Hawaii’s consistent temperatures year-round, you’ll primarily want to pack light-weight, breathable clothing. Depending on when you’re visiting. you should prepare water-proof gear (防水装置) as well as activity-specific clothing, like hiking boots or a wetsuit. Regardless of when you’re visiting, pack high-rated sunscreen. for it’s quite common to get sunburned faster than you even realize.
Vog in Hawaii
There are four major islands—Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. Vog (火山雾) is an effect caused by enissions of the Kilauea volcano on the Big Island. Therefore. why not come to the island if you’re interested in it? While vog is merely an inconvenience for most residents. it can affect people with illnesses such as asthma (哮喘). Some visitors to the Big ls-land who suffer from these problems should ask their doctors before their visit.

When it comes to learning English, lots of people hate learning idioms. However, if you don’t learn idioms, you may not always understand everything you hear or read in English. So, let’s try these tips to make remembering the idioms a piece of cake.
You’d better develop a good habit of taking notes when you learn English. When you hear or read new words or expressions and you don’t understand them, write them down in your notebook. Then you can go to ask your teacher for help or look them up in your dictionary.
Sometimes the context can help you know the meaning of an idiom. For example, if two students are talking about one of their classmates, they say something like “She always has the right answer. She’s a real teacher’s pet.” You know they are talking about a clever girl. Then you can know that “teacher’s pet” means “their favorite student of the teacher”.
If you think you know how to use an idiom, then don’t hold your tongue! Practice it with your friends or in class. It’s the only way to really learn how to use it.
A. Practice
B. Take notes
C. Read them aloud
D. Use context

Jay Greene is a professor of education policy at the University of Arkansas. He and his research team are studying how attending cultural events help a student's education, and he told the reporter, "We found that students who visited an art museum were more tolerant, more empathetic, and also learned a lot of content about the art they saw and developed stronger critical thinking skills about art.” Greene's researchers also examined how going to a live theater performance can affect students. Greene said that students who saw a live performance "experienced improvement in tolerance and empathy”, while those who watched a movie version of the same play did not experience the same results. The students who saw the live performance learned the story and related vocabulary better than those who watched the movie version, he said.
"Our most surprising result is that we saw improvements in math and reading test score performance for students in Atlanta after they went on multiple enriching field trips." Greene says that the fact they did welt on the tests “suggests that motivation is a very important part of success in school”. This is true for students of all ages. Students' behavior in school also improved. Greene thinks part of that may be because they were doing something fun in school.
“Because if the school doesn't do it for kids from more disadvantaged backgrounds, then it’s possible these kids won't get much exposure to the arts at all.” And that, he says, may hurt their future.
Melissa Reyes is with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. She said that, in addition to their usual arts field trips, the museum also offers “STEM-based tours”. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math — areas of great concern to many schools. Reyes explained that these tours look at connections “between art and science, art and math, and art and architecture”. She said, “These experiences complement learning goals in both the arts and the STEM categories.”
