The Svalbard International Seed Vault
Opened for storage in 2008, the seed bank is located deep in the side of a frozen arctic mountain in Longyearbyen, Norway, and can weather any disaster from bombings to earthquakes. Samples are collected from seed banks all over the world to be stored in the underground vault. Rather than acting as an active seed bank, the Vault is a global backup system for the planet’s plant resources.
The Germplasm Bank of Wild Species in China
Founded in the city of Kunming in 2007, the Germplasm Bank of Wild Species(GBWS) is a research and preservation center for rare and endangered plants and animals. It includes a seed pool, DNA bank, microbial bank and other parts. So far, it has preserved over 10,000 types of wild plant seeds, making it the largest in Asia and the second of its kind globally.
Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank
Opened in 2019, the seed bank is safeguarding plant biodiversity in Southeast Asia through conservation, research and education. Visitors can learn about seeds and the science of seed storage at a new building and outdoor garden. The Bank mainly conducts its research into seed preservation of tropical plants. It will be able to store the seeds of up to 25,000 plant species.
The Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry
Located near Russia’s St. Petersburg and founded in 1921, the Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry remains the world’s largest collection of plant seeds. It mainly focuses on crops that are suitable for farming in Russia such as potatoes, wheat, beans, vegetables, and many others.

Victorian Schoolroom
The session takes place in a grand reconstruction of a schoolroom in a late nineteenth century board school. The children will experience a wide range of Victorian style lessons and use slate boards and dip pens. The session leader will play the role of a Victorian teacher but will come out of the role during the session to comfort the children. We provide costume for all children.
Victorian Toys
Our Victorian nanny delivers this interesting session. The nanny will help children to explore the differences between rich and poor children’s toys from the past. During the session the children have the opportunity to make a toy to take home.
Victorian Christmas
In a specially decorated room the children will find out how the Victorians introduced many of our Christmas customs. They will make a simple card or present to take home.
