Debbie Parker Solo Recent Work at Latrobe Artspace

Talented and award-winning artist Debbie Parker is excited to be one of the first artists exhibit in the ALL NEW Latrobe Artspace in October!

This exhibition features paintings inspired by Debbie’s leisurely walks in Mount Coot-Tha National Park. Each painting offers a different way of looking at a familiar Australian landscape.

Debbie never gets tired of developing new ideas from the pictures she takes of the local area and the result is a collection of expressive paintings celebrating the unique Australian landscape and local birds and flowers.

With over 25 years of experience as an artist. Debbie developed her expressionist style in the early 1990s. Since then, she has competed and exhibited around Australia. She has also completed workshops with well-known artists in Queensland. Her work has been recognized in national and local competitions.

Usually, Debbie would have been exhibiting in competitions around Australia throughout this year but COVID-19 has set new challenges for artists.

However, Debbie is looking ahead and can’t wait to meet you at her latest exhibition! She will be on-site from 6th to 11th October 2020 Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 10 am to 3 pm at the ALL NEW Latrobe Artspace. 134 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington Queensland 4064.

Are you a gifted artist? Do you think you can draw a prize-winning dolphin or shark? In celebration of World Ocean Day on 8 June, The Week Junior is running a competition to create an awesome poster featuring some of the world’s coolest sea creatures, and your artwork could be part of it!

How to enter

Draw a picture of your favorite sea creature and send your picture by email tocompetitions@theweekjunior.com with OCEANPOSTER as the subject line by 12 April 2024. Make sure you’ve included your name, age, chosen sea creature, the address and phone number of your parent or guardian.

Once the competition has closed, our judges will pick 10 of the best animal drawings. They will be looking for the most creative and colorful drawings, so don’t be afraid to go big!

What you could win

The winning pictures will be shown on a The Week Junior ocean poster. Each winner will also receive a paint brush set worth over £80, which will be delivered to you.

Terms and conditions

The Week Junior will not share your personal details with third parties. The Week Junior will only use personal information to get in touch with the competition winners.

No responsibility can be accepted for entries (参赛作品) that have been lost or damaged in transit (运输中), or for any technical failure or any event that may cause the competition to stop. Entries must be received before 11: 59 pm on 12 April 2024.

All winners will be informed accordingly 4-6 weeks after the competition closes. By entering the competition all participants shall give permission for their artwork to be published online. Entries cannot be returned to senders.

What you need to know

Competition is open only to legal residents(居民) of the UK and Ireland who are between the ages of 7 and 14.

We have THREE categories(类别) in the competition- animals, people and environment(a new category started this year). You can enter as many categories as you like but just ONE photo per category, please!

All photos should be sent through our website. If You’re not already registered(注册),you or your parent will need to do so at natgeokids.com/uk/photocomp-- it will only take a minute to do!

You can submit(提交)ONE photo for each of the three categories. Photos should be in JPEG format. Between 1MB and 5MB in size. Enter at natgeokids. com/uk/photocomp.

【推荐3】Being recognized by National Geographic (《国家地理》) is one of the highest aims for many photographers. 14-year-old middle school student Gong Zijie from Changsha, Hunan, received this honor in 2014.

Gong was the China winner of the 2014 International Photography Contest for Kids. It was hosted by National Geographic Kids. Gong got first place in the Wild Vacation theme section. He photographed a shadow(影子) of a weed(杂草) on the Forbidden City’s tall red walls. In famous photographer Li Shaobai’s words, “Black, red, blue; the three colors form a striking contrast(强烈对比) together. The picture is silent, which stands for past life in the palace.” So why did he choose to take this photo? “I just saw the weed and thought it looked lonely and helpless.” Gong said.

Gong has learned about photography from his father, a professional photographer who works for Hunan TV. Since the age of 4, he has been following his father to take pictures of nature and social phenomenon(现象).

Gong is a patient photographer. It took him nearly four days to take the most suitable shot of a sunset in his hometown. He spends a lot of time waiting for the perfect chance to capture the best shots.

Gong said he is worried about environmental problems. Some of his photos of the Liuyang River show serious water pollution. He plans to photograph this river at least once every year to call more attention to the river’s pollution.
