The Qinghai-Tibet Railway,     1     began service in July 2006, is the world’s highest and longest plateau (高原) railroad and also the first railway connecting the Tibet autonomous region with other parts of China.

While     2     (build) the railway, the workers overcame many engineering challenges. One of these was to protect the ecosystem. Thirty-three     3     (passage) have been built to allow the animals to move     4     (safe) and freely in their natural habitat. 675 bridges     5     a total length of about 160 kilometers were built. We even     6     (move) 140, 000 square meters of wetland to a new area in order to protect the ecosystem.

Tanggula Station, the    7     (high) railway station in the world, is located at over 5, 000 meters about sea level.

As you pass the Cuona Lake, you will feel a sense of pride and     8     (achieve). Cuona Lake is so close to the railway that you want to reach out and touch     9    (it) pale blue mirror-like surface. Water birds playing in the lake bring the scenery to life.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has been attracting people’s admiration for centuries. Now, thanks to our efforts, passengers from all over the country have been enjoying those magical landscapes . It truly is    10     extraordinary “Sky Railway”.

As the transportation company, Deutsche Bahn, explains     1    (clear) on its website, while it is understandable that many enjoy food and drinks on the go, this has led to billions of used containers (容器) that end up as rubbish. They often cause road and environmental     2    (pollute). The company now offers meals in reusable cups, plates and bowls on its high-speed trains.

“We aim at     3    (offer) our customers a good eating experience just like at home. We will be using high-quality porcelain tableware (瓷器餐具)     4    (serve) main meals and snacks on the train. All drinks will be served in glasses,” the rail network shares.

The company’s new express trains are already in service, and more     5    (introduce) over the next six years. I was one of the people     3     came from all parts of China to work on this railway. Taking years to complete the Qinghai - Tibet Railway is a record of all of our efforts to overcome     4     most difficult challenges. How     5     ( protect ) the ecosystem was among the top concerns . The first landmark     6     ( catch ) my eye is the Qingshuihe Bridge, the world’s longest bridge built over permafrost. To prevent damage to wetlands and grasslands, 675 bridges     7     ( build ) between Golmud and Lhasa.

Tanggula Station,     8     ( locate ) at over 5,000 metres above sea level, is the highest railway station in the world. To make sure we stayed healthy, several oxygen - making stations were constructed. Passing Cuona Lake, I feel a sense of pride and     9     ( achieve ). Along the lake we built a twenty - kilometre wall to protect the lake     10     construction waste.

I’m proud that we built our “impossible” railway. It truly is an extraordinary “Sky Railway”.

A few years ago, I stood underneath a red overhanging cliff near my hometown. The day was amazing.     1     deer chewed on the brown grasses, an eagle rode the wind. I was tied in, ready to climb. I was attempting     2     (do) a route first try, “onsight,” which means I didn’t know     3     I was climbing into.

Just as I was about to climb, nerves in my body, which I hadn’t felt yet,     4     (say) hello. That’s not good for any athlete. Desperate, I painted a coat of     5     (confident) on my inner walls of doubt. “You can do this, and success is certain.” I firmly told myself.

It didn’t work. I fell near the top.     6     (defeat), I lowered to the ground and realized powerfully that the desire to climb the route had kept me from doing it. In a flash, I told myself that on my next attempt, success or failure was not important. “Make one move at     7     time. That’s all.” I gave myself a pass from whatever would happen. It worked.

While     8     (stand) on the top, I was deep in thought. At some point, I framed this experience for myself in terms of simple arithmetic: When I added determination, courage, and desire, I failed. When I took away the desire for success, I improved. I enjoyed it more as well, which,     9     an athlete of 30 years, I didn’t think was possible. I     10     (eventual) discovered the power of subtraction (减法).

During the summer of 2019, our beautiful campsite was on the field of the     1     (love) organic(有机的) farm of Joachim and Agnes.

During these two weeks, we stayed together with young people from all over the world. We took long walks in small groups to discover the beautiful nature of the country and some of     2       (we) even climbed the highest mountain of Czech Republic! This mountain is on the border(边界) of Czech Republic     3     Poland, so International Youth Camp also visited Poland this year.

Every morning, by     4     (sing) songs the staff (职员) woke up the camp. The days     5       (be) full of workshops and performances(表演) at the ‘open space’. Also at     6     end of every day, there was a campfire and hot chocolate.

One evening, Joachim and Agnes joined us during supper and Joachim told us the history of his farm. He told us that his dream for the farm always had been that young people from all over the world would come to his farm       7     (connect) with each other. Afterwards, he showed us his organic farm. Besides the fields full of different kinds of vegetables, there were cows and horses     8     well. Joachim was     9     (actual) fixing an old villa (别墅), so that groups of children and young people could stay here for camps or other     10     (activity) like horse riding, singing and dancing.
