“Nothing can make our lives, or the lives of other people, more     1     (please) than kindness.” I remembered the sentence again after practicing a small act.

Just inside the entrance of a building today I saw a woman     2     (seat) in a wheelchair in front of me. Not     3     a hurry, I didn’t want to disturb her so I stayed behind. She asked me to push the button for the lift after being aware of my     4     (present). Walking by her to the lift, I pressed the button and the lift came immediately. She asked me to hold the lift as it would take her some time     5     (walk) that short distance.

I was more than glad to do this, but panic     6     (rise) inside me at the same time. The “open” and “close” symbols on many lifts often don’t have the     7     (word) “open” and “close” and I often press the wrong button.     8     (thankful) besides the symbol, it also said open, so I was able to press the correct button and told her to take her time getting on. I didn’t press the close button     9     she steadied herself in the lift.

She thanked me and I wished her a blessed day. As     10     matter of fact, the process took me only five minutes but I felt warm inside afterwards.

Anjali Mishra is a rising junior at Sunset High School in Portland. At 17, she is president and founder of her school’s UNCF (United Nations Children’s Fund) USA club. She also volunteers her time     1     different communities.

Why did Anjali like helping others? When she was a freshman, she     2     (invite) to a cousin’s wedding in India.When she saw    3     (child) on the street, she realized how     4     (luck) she was as a child. She wanted to help them! UNCF stood out to her.

After     5     (start) a UNCF club at her school, Anjali noticed that the community responded     6     (active). She took things a step further by     7     (apply) to UNCF's national council (委员会).

As     8     member of the council, Anjali helps organize high school UNCF clubs around the country and provide resources so that the clubs can manage     9     (they).

The teen also founded an organization called “Activists United.” Members educate people on the dangers of guns. Anjali encourages other kids to start local clubs and organizations, too. “It takes a lot of effort,     10     you can get it done if you’re passionate(激情),” she says.

Since 1997, the May 4th Medal     1     (give) to exceptional individuals and groups.     2     (it) aim is to inspire contemporary youth in China to embrace and preserve the May 4th Movement and encourage them to contribute to the development of the country. This year China awarded 34 individuals and 20 groups and     3     (organize) the medal to celebrate their great contributions to the country. Let’s look at one of them.

Liu Xian is     4     ordinary businesswoman,     5     started a restaurant in Chengdu. During the pandemic, the 25-year-old woman heard that medical staff on the front line weren’t able to eat well due to the extended working hours. In spite of the risk of getting infected, Liu headed to Wuhan,     6     COVID-19 was the worst. Over 40 days, she cooked for medical staffs in over 20 hospitals. Her meals were of high quality and were nutritious. More     7     (important), her efforts gave the medics the strength and nourishment they badly needed.

As there was a lack of protective clothing, Liu always wore a raincoat when     8     (deliver) food. People began to affectionately refer to her     9     “Raincoat Girl”. Liu continues in her efforts to help others. “Where there is need for help, ‘Raincoat Members’ will be there     10     (solve) the problems,” She told CGTN.
