Maroondah Toy Library is a volunteer organization that’s been running since 1979 to provide an affordable toy lending service for all families in the greater Maroondah area.

About this opportunity

We’re looking for volunteers with a quick eye for detail to volunteer at our borrowing sessions (时间段) either on Mondays or Thursdays from 9.30am-12.30pm or 12.30-3.30pm, or every second Saturday from 9.30am-1pm or 12.30-4pm.

Tasks include helping to check and count toys as member families return them, tidy the library, as well as staffing a computer to help members borrow toys. When sessions are quiet you will help with preparing toys for borrowing—labelling, engraving, boxing—so we need you to enjoy and be good at these types of detailed tasks and have small neat handwriting. Other jobs include cleaning and repairing toys, basic database work, etc.

The applicant must have strong attention to detail, computer literacy (技能), and enjoy communicating with families and their young children. Applicants must be available once per week or every second week on Saturday on an ongoing basis as it will take a few visits to understand the requirements of the job.

Jilin city is a popular destination for tourists to come each winter to view the wonderful rime ice on trees along the banks of the Songhua River. Though Jilin is not outstanding as a tourist city, its name spreads among travelers nationwide because of the rime. The rime on the Songhua River is one of four natural wonders in China, enjoying equal fame as Guilin Mountains and Streams, Yunnan Stone Forest and the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River do. The rime, also called “snow willow” “tree hanging” “ice flowers” “silver flowers”, is a kind of phenomenon.

The current Rime Ice and Snow Festival includes 12 programs, such as the opening ceremony of the “Praise of Winter”, “Brightness of Winter”-China’s Jilin International Rime Ice and Snow Festival large musical fireworks show, “Challenge of Winter”-China’s Jilin thousands of people winter swim in the Songhua River and so on. The entire festival activities will continue until the end of February. At night, a large-scale fireworks show will be held at Fengfan Square beside the Songhua River. People there will dance for joy, and both sides of the Songhua River will turn into a sea of joy.

Rime Island or Wusong Dao is only 40 kilometers from Jilin city, but lower than it. Rime Island is completely surrounded by water and is a meeting point for cold air to meet warmer ocean air. The island is often covered with heavy fog, with fog covering up to this small 6-kilometer island and not evaporating(蒸发). The best time to appreciate rime is before 10 o'clock in the morning.
