Welcome to WSU Libraries! In this guide, we’ll unlock the mysteries of call numbers and location prefixes. Knowing these helps you quickly locate and access your desired books.
Call Numbers
Books and material are arranged on our shelves according to the Library of Congress (LC) classification system. These call numbers uniquely identify and organize items near other material on the same or similar subjects. Consider the call number: LB2395 C65 1991.
♦ LB defines the subject area. The call letters are typically arranged in alphabetical (字母的) order, starting from A and continuing through the alphabet. Knowing the letter(s) for your subject area gives you a place to start browsing the shelves. For example: A — General works; B — Philosophy, Psychology, Religion; D — world History; G — Geography; H— social sciences; J — Political science; K — Law; L— Education; M — Music; N — Arts; P— Language and Literature; Q — science. For more, click here.
♦ 2395 is the classification number, which further distinguishes the subject matter. Read as a whole number: 1, 2, 3, 45, 100, 2430.
♦ C65 is the Cutter number and usually represents the author’s last name. Find C, then 65. Read the number as a decimal (小数).
♦ 1991 is the year of publication.
Location Prefixes
Some call numbers have a location prefix. Location prefixes mean that the book or material is shelved in a special place, and may have loan restrictions. WSU uses the following prefixes:
1. Which book maybe identified under the call number “NU238 C719 2013” ?A.An Introduction to Modern Art. | B.The ABC of Computer science. |
C.The Recycling of waste oils. | D.A short History of France. |
A.C78. | B.S53. | C.W67. | D.L59. |
A.0n the 2nd or 4th floor of the library. |
B.In the Reference Area on the 1st floor. |
C.In the Circulation Area on the 1st floor. |
D.At the Learning Resources Center on the 2nd floor. |

【推荐1】Four Magical Bookstores Around the World
There’s nothing better than diving into the pages of a book and travelling to a faraway place. Even in this digital era, book lovers will always adore getting lost in a magical bookstore. Here are 4 of the best bookstores in the world.
◆ Shakespeare and Company
Paris, France
As one of the most historical bookstores in the world, Shakespeare and Co. is a good spot for literary lovers. Set in the heart of Paris, the bookstore was opened in 1919 by American Sylvia Beach. She lent books to the famous author Ernest Hemingway when he couldn’t afford to buy them. The bookstore became a popular hangout for writers in the 1920s, including James Joyce, Gertrude Stein and Ezra Pound. Today the shop is active as ever and holds regular readings, workshops and an annual festival with some of the world’s best contemporary writers.

◆ EL Ateneo Grand Splendid
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Constructed in 1919, this theater-turned-cinema-turned-bookstore is an example of the connection between the performing arts and books. It preserves the traditional ceiling and special curtains of the former theater and books line the walls, including where the audience once sat in box seats.

◆ EI Pendulo
Mexico City, Mexico
A true feast for the eyes, EI Pendulo is really magical and one of the best book shops in the world. You’ll enter a dreamplace where green trees hang over bookshelves and plants are dotted all over the space, and even the handrails (扶手) look like winding green plants.

◆ Zhongshuge Bookstore
Hangzhou, China
Located in a commercial center in the Binjiang District, Zhongshuge Bookstore is a notable place of Hangzhou’s Star Avenue. This Chinese bookstore is architecturally unique. Stairs and seats built into round bookshelves combined with mirrored ceilings give the optical illusion (视觉幻象) of countless books. Other optical illusions include a tunnel of books and what appears to be a long roller coaster of books in the children’s book room.

Changing Lives Through Maths!
Mathnasium of North Oxford, your neighbourhood maths-only learning centre!
We help children aged 13—18 understand maths in a special way. Our way of teaching children maths, the Mathnasium Method, has changed the way students learn maths for over a decade across 800 centres worldwide:
We know how to teach your child maths.
Our specially trained maths teachers will teach your child how to understand maths in a special setting—our unique approach enables us to effectively explain maths concepts well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our teachers create a caring, encouraging environment that helps your child “catch up, keep up and get ahead” in their maths learning.
We find exactly your child’s learning needs, meet them where they are and take them where they need to go.
At Mathnasium we use our unique assessment process to determine exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, we design an individual learning plan for each student. It doesn’t stop there—our teachers continually check progress along the way to make sure students truly understand the concepts we’ve taught. Students learn maths at their own speed and according to their own level. They will see obvious changes in attitude, confidence and school progress.

You’ll create your own world, and make the most original designs in a bottle! You will continue to experience it for a long time.
By Mr. Botanist
About this event
How does it work?
1. The host will send you a set of glass containers and you don’t need to prepare anything (the glass containers fee and shipping included in the price).
2. You will get your tacking number, and your sipping will be express sipping!
3. You need to book your experience session at least I week before the date you want.
4. When you receive your glass containers, the host will send you a link.
5. Sustainable Container class will start.
240 hours of experience (minimum)! You will keep your containers and will continue to experience them. The host will bring all the materials.
Important Note: This is just an application/ practice to make a closed sustainable container. Please don’t forget that they won't lie forever.
Are you ready to meet a fun botanical activity? You will create your own world! You will make the most original designs as creatively as possible in a limited space.
A container simply is a self-sustainable ecosystem. We will talk about the carbon, oxygen, and water cycle, which is very important scientifically for life. We will have many design materials that you can freely make your own combination. Every container has different life paths. You will create a unique, separate, and long-life container. Right combination containers can live for decades. You will be able to watch for a long time without opening it again, and after 2-3 months, you will start to see some little friends (worms…) in the jar.
An instructor will be with you. It won’t be like a regular class, and be ready for fun!

These four conservationists are doing fantastic work to protect some highly threatened species in a world where many species are racing towards extinction.
Elena Bykova
If not for the efforts of Elena Bykova, the saiga antelope (赛加羚羊) would have been extinct by now. As Executive Secretary of the Saiga Conservation Alliance, an international organization, Bykova works to save the antelope. Illegal hunting is the single biggest threat, and Bykova concentrates on raising public awareness of the danger, finding alternative livelihood (生计) opportunities for local communities, and protecting saiga habitats.
Anne Savage
Dr. Savage founds a conservation program to protect cotton-top tamarins (棉顶狨猴) She pioneers the development of new technologies to study the animal in the Colombian forest. She also helps conduct a study that found only 7,500 individuals remained. As a result, the International Union for Conservation of Nature adjusted the classification of cotton tops from Endangered to Critically Endangered, bringing the species to more people’s notice.
Jeanne Tarrant
Frogs are astonishingly diverse and beautiful for Dr. Tarrant. Over the years, she has helped put the spotlight on many highly threatened species of frogs that face extinction due to habitat loss, climate change, and hunts by their animal enemies. No wonder she is called the “Frog Lady” of South Africa!
Marilyn Connell
Living only in the Mary River of Queensland, the Mary River turtle (龟)takes in oxygen in two ways. Being hunted by other wildlife is the Mary River turtle’s biggest threat. Connell and her team investigate the threats to the species and take measures to protect the eggs and newborns from being hunted, ensuring the species has a bright future.

Canyon Creek Sports Camp
This camp provides a safe, non-competitive environment where boys and girls have the opportunity to build confidence and independence, learn teamwork and develop problem-solving skills. With excellent and modern equipment, our perfect sports complex (综合设施) is less than an hour’s drive from West Los Angeles.
Camp Pocono Trails
Our camp offers a special program to teenagers who want to rediscover their own strengths because they have been too busy tapping on their phones. Teens can connect with nature, other campers, and themselves. It’s unreasonable to just take the Internet from teenagers. Therefore young people need to learn how to limit their gaming and social media behavior to a proper amount. This is the first summer program that focuses on Internet gaming and social media misuse.
Colvig Silver Camps
Our unique program connects creative activities with a 3 - 5 day adventure in the natural world, providing campers with real challenges that they can overcome (战胜). Through that challenge and experience, campers gain a better understanding of themselves and the environment around them.
Above all, campers could expect a summer of fun and adventure.
YMCA Camp Widjiwagan
YMCA camps allow teens to take adventures in the finest wilderness areas throughout North America.
