Hollywood filmmakers, including creators of the 1998 Disney film Mulan, will start a “discovery trip” to Mulan’s birthplace — Huangpi district in Hubei province this week.

During    1    two-day visit, they will see a number of Mulan-themed performances, such as horse fighting show and local opera. They also will visit    2    (place) of historical interest, like the Mulan Mountain and the Generals Temple.

In the 20 years since the Disney film came out,     3    (it) director Tony Bancroft hasn’t been to the land of Mulan’s roots. “For me, it’s more than a circle tour of    4    my favorite character was born. I’m also doing my homework for the next film,” he said.

“China used to be closed off to Westerners,     5    (create) a mystery. But in the last few years, U.S. films    6    (explore) the Chinese culture and environment, which has opened audiences to a whole new world. I believe the tale of Mulan appeals to Westerners mainly because it’s about a daughter’s respect    7    her family,     8    (especial) her father.” Bancroft added.

A live-action remake of the 1998 film    9    (expect) to hit theaters in 2020. The Walt Disney Studios has announced that Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also    10    (know) as Crystal Liu, is going to star in the classic Chinese tale.

The highly anticipated film Better Days (《少年的你》) was finally released on Oct 25. While Zhou Dongyu, the young actress who won the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress, maintained her usual level of     1     (act), the new star Jackson Yee’s excellent performance surprised audiences.

The film follows two teenagers who find themselves in an     2     (expect) situation. An excellent candidate of the national college entrance exam, Chen Nian starring Zhou Dongyu, meets a teen hooligan (小混混)     3     (name) Liu Beishan starring Jackson Yee. The two slowly form a strong friendship,     4     (support) each other through tough times. Chen learns that Liu     5     (abandon) by his parents and dropped out of school at age 13. Liu tries to protect Chen from school bullies (霸凌). But before Chen takes the exam, she     6     (accident) kills a classmate who has been bullying her. To protect his friend, Liu tries to take the blame     7     Chen.

Jackson Yee scored a success with the film. Talking about why he     8     (choose) the role, the 18-year-old star said he was interested in the theme of teenage bullying. “Beyond the problem of school     9     (violent), the film also reflects on the mental growth of youth,” he told Global Times. In recent years, the pop star has been working as     10     activist and pioneer for Chinese youth.
