“My wife and I moved to Maple Estate when we got married. For a few months, we spent all our free time after work doing up our house. Even though we knew that our neighbours were friendly and would sometimes invite us for their gatherings, we were occupied with getting things ready. However, it wasn’t long before we grew curious about the Community Day celebrations. After we started attending them regularly, we met many neighbours. The first time we invited some of them over, we played games that helped us to get to know one another better!”
—Mr. Wang, a Maple Estate resident since 2022

Furniture Bank Network
Furniture Bank Network helps people furnish their homes with practical secondhand items donated by people within the community. Tax receipts for the value of the donated items are given to donors (捐赠者). Recipients get the furniture for free. People can get furnishings from their local Furniture Bank only if they are referred to the organization through one of its social service partners. It also encourages applicants to help the organization with volunteer work.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a global non-profit. It collects monetary donations to build and remodel affordable housing so that those in need can apply for it. You can also donate furniture and other household goods to Habitat for Humanity. It resells these items in home improvement stores and uses the money to fund its humanitarian efforts.
Goodwill
Goodwill resells donated furniture and other household items to fund its charitable objectives. Goodwill uses its earnings to provide career training and employment assistance for unemployed individuals. It also offers discounts to the people enrolled in its training programs, allowing them to affordably furnish their homes and buy clothes for their families.
PickUpMyDonation.com
PickUpMyDonation.com isn’t actually a donation center and it doesn’t pick up your donations. Instead, it helps you find local non-profits and charity shops that do. At first,I heard this and thought, “You are asking an eleven-year-old in his last weeks of summer if he wants to go on a trip with his mom to Canada to serve other people?” Of course, I responded with a kind refusal, but my mom found a way to convince me to go.
When we were on the ferry to the island,a thousand thoughts were running through my head, such as “What am I going to do here?” “Am I even going to be useful?” and “Why am I even here?" When we got to the island,I was asked to the child care. I was actually somewhat excited because my friend, said he would help me. The first time I met the kids, I got to know them pretty well. They were all between the ages of four and six. Some of them stayed behaved and a few of them started acting crazy and would even hit and push the other kids.
With those kids,1 was very strict, but 1 still tried to be positive and keep a smile. After all, they were just innocent kids. In most of 'he time,I needed to help them with things like washing clothe, and setting tables. Even though it sounded dull, I enjoyed every second of it. One of the things I did in my free time was to play pool(打台球). I made friends with a few kids there. They were really easy to talk to. Some of the things we talked about were sports, food, video games, and most of all pool.
Even though I was only at Malibu, Canada for one week, I feel like I made spiritual changes in some people's life. You don't have to go above and beyond to have an influence on someone's life. In the end, it all comes down to what way you changed them. It could have been in a spiritual way or a mental way as long as you had a positive effect. So go out and try to make a difference in this world.

D.He shared common hobbies with some kids. |
A.He regretted having taken the trip. |

Read our original review of The Lion King
It’s one of the most beloved Disney films of all time, and for last two decades it’s been one of the main events of London’s West End. The magical, family-friendly stage version of The Lion King has been reigning supreme at the Lyceum Theatre since 1999, and shows no signs of quietening its roar.
If you’ve not seen the classic Disney film, that’s close to sacrilege - but don’t worry, we can fill you in. a young cub called Simba tries to come to terms with the cruel death of his father Mufasa, at the same time as learning about the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as a king. It’s a bit like Hamlet, but with singing animals (and a happier ending).
The musical is a must-see for any Londoner, whether you call the capital home or are just here for the weekend. The stunning visuals are pretty breathtaking whatever your age, but ingenious puppetry and intricate masks recreate the animal kingdom of Africa in a spectacle that your little lion clubs will never forget.
Did you know? Julie Taymor, the shows director, created a number of puppets and masks for the show. She used many different styles, but had one rule: the performer should never be hidden by the device so the audience could see the humanity of the characters as well as what each performer was technically capable of.
Where? Lyceum Theatre, 21 Wellington Street, WC2E 7RQ. Nearest underground stations are: Charing Cross, Covent Garden, Embankment, Leicester Square, Holborn and Temple.
Performance dates and times: The Lion King is currently booking until September 30, 2019. Performances are Tuesday-Sunday, with matinees at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and evening performances at 7.30 p.m. (not Sunday). The running time of the show is two and a half hours with an interval.
