【推荐1】Call for Entries: Young Women Writers Competition

Guardian Weekend magazine is launching a writing competition for UK women aged 16-21 on the theme of “Conversations”.

How to Enter

All you have to do is submit a 700-word personal essay that shows off your talents-on the theme of “Conversations”. Did you have an unforgettable conversation with your grandmother about her youth that changed how you viewed her? Do you find having certain conversations really hard, and if so, why? Is there a conversation you regret, or one you regret you never had? We’re keen to hear about your personal experiences.

The Prizes

There will be one winner and two runners-up. The three winners will each receive £250. The winners will be notified by email or telephone on or before June 30, 2023 and given details of how to claim their prizes. As part of the editing process, the three winners will participate in a video call with a Guardian Weekend editor to discuss and edit their essay for publication. The one overall winner will also receive a one-to-one workshop with an editor.

Rules

Follow all the rules carefully to prevent disqualification.

■Only one entry is permitted per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.

■The competition opens at 9:00 am on May 22, 2023 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on June 9, 2023. Entries received outside this time period will not be considered.

■Your entry must not be copied, and must not contain any third-party materials or content that you do not have permission to use.

■You must include your name, age and contact details, including your email address and phone number.

1. Mackinac Island, Michigan

3. Dillon Reservoir, Colorado

With an hour from Denver, this lake is home to what claims to be the nation's highest sailing club, at an altitude of more than 9,000 feet. Marinas in the towns of Dillon and Frisco make it easy to get out on he water and to see the bright yellows and golds of fall leaves. “ People are surprised that there's boating in Colorado, and you can see the mountains just before the snowball," Blackwell says.

4. Lake Monroe, Indiana

The state’s largest lake is surrounded by more than 13,000 acres of protected forest and three recreation areas, making it an ideal place to see fall colors, particularly from oaks and the tulip poplar, the state tree. “ It’s a gem (宝石) in southern Indiana," says Blackwell, who grew up in the area. “There are lots of different activities: canoeing, kayaking and fishing.”

Sailing Club:

Our Young Sailor’s Course leads to the Stage 1 Sailing qualification. You’11 learn how to sail safely and the course also covers sailing theory and first aid. Have fun with other course members afterwards in the clubroom. There are 10 weekly two—hour lessons (Tuesdays 6 pm～8 pm).

Medical Center:

The staff of the Medical Center aim to provide convenient and comprehensive medical care to students and staff of the university. The center is well equipped and the staff here are trained to deal with a broad range of medical problems. Both female and male doctors as well as nursing staff are available for consultation. Also, all kinds of medicines are sold here and are cheaper for students than other drugstores.

Watersports Club:

We use a two-kilometre length of river for speedboat racing, and water-skiing. A beginners’ course consists of ten 20-minute lessons. You will learn to handle boats safely and confidently, but must be able to swim. The club is in a convenient central position and is open daily from 9 a.m to 4 p.m, with lessons all through the day.
