Things To Remember On Your First Solo Travel Adventure

If you’ve ever thought about just taking a trip yourself instead of waiting for someone to join you, you’re not alone.     1     However, do you count yourself among the many who have tried it? If you’re planning your own solo trip, here are four important things to keep in mind.

2     Since you’re traveling solo, how you choose to explore it is entirely up to you. This is your chance to do whatever you want whenever you want because this time, you’re running the show.

Don’t be afraid to talk to random people. Though there is someone who poses a threat, it’s important to remember that not everyone is out to get you.     3    That’s because you’re a novelty, a person from another country who is visiting theirs. Therefore, instead of putting on your headphones or instantly seeing them as weirdos, use this spontaneous chat as a chance to meet the locals or get recommendations for things to do during your trip.

It’s okay to have bad days.     4     It happens and it’s completely okay to take some time to process whatever it is you’re feeling. Take yourself to a movie or spend the day dong something relaxing like writing in your journal or reading on the beach.

It’s okay to start small.     5     Start by doing a staycation in another part of town, spending a few days in a new locale a bus or train ride away. Just do whatever you’re comfortable with and see how it all feels for you.

A.You are the boss of your own adventure.
B.You need to make an unusual travel choice.
C.It’s no secret that solo travel is on the rise.
D.Sometimes things can go incredibly wrong.
E.People like you simply don’t know how to start.
F.Most of the time people are just curious and try to be friendly.
G.Remember, your first solo trip doesn’t have to be to a whole other continent.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了通过衣物交换来处理旧衣服的方法——衣物交换派对,以及一些具体的流程。

【推荐1】Swap, Don’t shop!

You keep hearing about recycling, right? But it doesn’t end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources(资源)to make, and buying loads of new clothing(or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment. So what to do with all those perfectly-good-but-you’re-maybe-a-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor?     1    . It’s the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.

A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It’s really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.

●Invite 5—10 people so you have a nice selection.     2     , and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.

3    . They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.

●Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.    4    . Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.

●Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever.     5    . And don’t forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it’s a party!

A.Less people than that
B.Hold a clothing swap
C.If two people are competing
D.Just keep music playing throughout
E.Donate whatever clothes are left over
F.Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G.Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition

【推荐2】Most people know how to manage, express, and cope with emotions in a healthy way.     1     In fact, knowing how to regulate emotions is important for everyone. But what is emotion regulation, and how can you improve your emotion regulation skills?

2     Many researchers view emotion regulation as the ability to enhance or reduce your emotions as needed. Others define it as a set of skills that help keep your emotional system healthy and functioning. We can learn to adjust what emotion we have, how intense it is, when we have it, and how we react to it. The defining aspect of emotion regulation is that it occurs when a goal is activated.

Goals are highly individual. They're what we picture in our heads. Your goals can be activated by your environment. You may regulate your emotions to influence a change in someone else.     3     For instance, when your boss treats you poorly at work, you act as if it doesn't bother you because you're hoping for a job promotion.

Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment. Mindful people learn to be aware of the breaths they take, the tension in their muscles, and even their pulse rates. They can objectively observe themselves in difficult moments, confident that even these times will pass.     4

In and of themselves, emotions are not good or bad, though they may be scary, especially when they're intense.     5     But the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. Mindfulness skills can help with this too.

A.Learning how to accept your emotions takes practice.
B.Being mindful can help you to deal with your emotions.
C.There is no one agreed-upon definition of emotion regulation.
D.Emotion regulation goals vary strongly from situation to situation.
E.For some people, though, emotion regulation is much more difficult.
F.Emotion regulation refers to the ability to control one's own emotions.
G.Sometimes you may regulate your emotions to achieve another end goal.
