Tu 2/27 7:00 pm Orchestra Concert, Turner Chapel
When we think of great composers we often think of “the three B’s” Bach, Beethoven, Brahms. Tonight, however, the NGU symphony will perform works by two of these composers with another great composer whose name also begins with B, Bizet. The program will begin with Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2, from his opera The Girl from Arles. Next is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.
Tu 4/17 7:00 pm Orchestra, Choir, and String Ensemble, Turner Chapel
This evening the NGU String Ensemble will perform two works, Gustav Holst’s Brook Green Suite and Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite. Holst wrote his suite for his students at St. Paul’s Girl’s School in 1933 desiring to provide them with a piece in a contemporary mature style that was not a “watered down” version of a classic. Both works are readily accessible by the average audience and are performed regularly.

Some companies have different types of desks to help their workers. The first type of desk is the standing desk. The desk can be taller when a person wants to stand. It can also be shorter when the person wants to sit. Another type of desk is the walking desk. This desk is made so that a person can work while walking at the same time.

【推荐1】Five Family Films to Enjoy with Your Family
Lost Horizon
In Frank Capra’s Lost Horizon, the passengers on a plane attacked after the take-off in China are thrown together against their will only to be deposited in Shangri-La. During their stay there, they realize that a family gathering should be about forming connections and taking time to consider one’s place in the family, in the community and even in the world.
The Human Comedy
Maybe as the finest film about the US home front during World War Ⅱ, The Human Comedy is a portrait of a family dealing with life after the oldest son is drafted into military service(兵役). Mickey Rooney plays the younger son missing his older brother but trying to get on with his life in high school.
Miracle on 34th Street
The Christmas classic was released in 1947, but it essentially set the stage for the 1950s. It’s about the birth of the post-war consumer culture, and how affection for family and friends can be best expressed by the act of spending money.
Mary Poppins
Sometimes a family needs to make a change but the Banks family is definitely in a rut(一成不变). George seems to care more about his banking job than his wife and children. He needs to learn that sometimes all he needs is a laugh for a laugh’s sake, tuppence(两便士)to feed the birds and the time to fly a kite. In the end, his change is as powerful as Ebenezer Scrooge’s.
Star Wars: Episode Ⅳ-A New Hope
Star Wars is about what happens after you make the choice to leave home for good. Of course, for Luke Skywalker, the choice to “take the first step into a larger world” is made for him when his family is killed. 【推荐2】London, with countless famous sites and all manner of food, drink, shopping, history, and culture, is definitely a wonderful city to visit.
Time Zone
Greenwich Mean Time during the winter, British Summer Time during the rest of the year (starting at Daylight Saving Time).
Best Time to Go
The best time to visit London overall is in spring, when the temperatures have warmed up, the sun has started to shine and London’s gardens and parks are looking their best. However, the reality is that the best time to travel to London depends a lot on what you’re looking for. If you’re all about taking a look inside Queen Liz’s palace, you’d better make it in summer, while winter is beautiful and festive for those looking to get their fill of Christmas markets and traditional cheer.
Things to Know
Londoners, and English people in general, have a much more different manner of interacting with one another than Americans do while an American might think nothing of smiling at a stranger passing on the sidewalk or asking about work in the first few minutes of a conversation. Londoners might consider it impolite or strange. Don’t mistake this for unfriendliness; it’s just a cultural difference. Instead, talk about things like movies, TV shows, books, your travels, and the like, instead of work or family.
How to Get Around
Getting around London is unbelievably easy thanks to the well-maintained and extensive Underground. The underground, unlike American transportation systems which often pay per ride or pay per length of trip, are paid in zones. Fare also varies based on time of day and the method you use to pay. It’s worth getting an Oyster card to make your life that much simpler.
1. What is the best season to visit Queen Liz’s palace?A.Spring. | B.Summer. | C.Autumn. | D.Winter. |
A.A football match. | B.A work plan. |
C.A family issue. | D.A company rule. |
A.A survey. | B.A travel diary. |
C.A research paper. | D.A guidebook. |
