A cheetah (猎豹) can run 70 miles per hour. Blobfish (水滴鱼) don’t have any bones. These are facts I’ve learned from my 5-year-old son after he watched some networks, shows. He is greatly interested in scientific facts, so I was surprised the other day when I mentioned climate change.

After a few more questions, I discovered that he’s never heard any of his favorite science shows mention climate change. It is strange, because climate change is one of the most important environmental issues of our time. My son can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about red pandas, except for the fact that their existence is being threatened by the changing climate.

I reached out to PBS Kids, Nickelodeon, and Disney Junior to see if there was any truth to his claim. I was told that except an episode (一段情节) of Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins called The Big Storm, none of the three networks’ shows has ever discussed the causes of climate change on our planet. Maybe you’re wondering if the reason is that kids’ science shows don’t ever tackle troubling environmental issues.

Why aren’t these networks introducing kids to such an important issue? According to Maria, spokeswoman for PBS Kids, it’s because the network feels that focusing on foundational science concepts is the most age-appropriate way to serve our audience. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather my kid learn a little about the melting polar ice caps than other things.

And kids can handle climate change. Even young children are able to understand the basic idea. More importantly, they’re able to begin taking action to slow down global warming. My guess is that the networks are afraid that promoting the science on a politically controversial (争议性的) issue will lead them to lose viewers or advertisers. But if that’s true, and they’re choosing their bottom line over the education of America’s children, that’s a real shame. Kids need to learn about the issue that threatens their planet if they’re ever going to feel inspired to save it.

A.get to know her son’s preference
B.find the reason of her son’s ignorance

3. What does the author think his son should do?
A.Learn something about environmental issues.
B.Help to slow down global warming.
C.Discuss important issues with others.
D.Learn to handle climate change.
4. What is the purpose of the author’s writing this text?
A.To advice kids not to watch networks’ shows.
B.To introduce some politically controversial issues.
C.To express his attitude towards some networks.
D.To call on all Americans to care about kids’ education.

【推荐1】Are you someone who easily gets tired and doesn’t feel like doing anything? Do you label this kind of behavior as mere laziness?     1

Feel disconnected from everything.

People experiencing exhaustion most commonly don’t feel like themselves anymore, don’t feel engaged by anything and constantly struggle with the sense of helplessness and inability to take back control of their lives.

So if your family members or partners are not at hand, or you leave home to find a job in another city, please don’t complain and get discouraged with life. Be positive and enjoy it.

4     Since you aren’t spending so much time dealing with the thoughts and feelings of others, it’s the best time to turn your focus inwards.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,主要通过作者自身的经历和Tracy Dennis Tiwary的经历讲述了焦虑并不一定是坏事。

【推荐3】I am an anxious traveller. I arrive at airports and train stations extra early. I double-check all of my documents, feeling a tightness in my jaw and a slight clench in my stomach until I’ve arrived where I’m going. I used to feel bad about it, seeing it as absurd and weak. However, I’ve learned to respect my tendency to be cautious.

Recently, I was driving along a rural road at the start of a long trip that would mainly be on a large motorway. I began feeling that something could go wrong. What if I run out of petrol? I worried, even though I still had plenty. So when I spied a petrol station just before the road I was going to take onto the motorway, I decided to fill up. Just in case. And that’s when I discovered that one of my front tyres was flat. If I’d overpowered my unease, talked down my anxiety, the tyre would have blown at speed on the motorway. My urge to plan ahead even though it wasn’t strictly necessary saved me from a potentially catastrophic scenario.

A growing number of psychologists and neuroscientists agree anxiety and other negative feelings have a role to play in our lives. Tracy Dennis Tiwary, who recently published Future Tense: Why Anxiety Is Good for You, thinks our culture goes overboard in demonising(妖魔化) difficult emotions. She knows what it’s like to get overwhelmed by anxiety. “I remember a period at work when there was a lot going on. Worries kept waking me up at 4 am. It was like a yucky cloud of free-floating anxiety,” she says.

Instead of trying to repress this uneasy feeling, however, Dennis Tiwary leaned into it. She recognized the niggling thing, gave it space and learned from it. Finally she wrote down two or three things she could do to address it. The next morning, she felt calmer.

A.He carries the wrong documents carelessly.
B.He is anxious about missing his flights or trains.
C.He feels ashamed about his tendency to be too careful now.
D.He enjoys spending extra time at airports and train stations.
2. What did the author find when he decided to fill up?
A.The gas was used up.B.His unease disappeared.
C.He was caught in a crash.D.Something was wrong with his car.
3. What is Dennis Tiwary’s opinion about difficult emotions?
A.They should be ignored.B.They are crucial to success.
C.They can be beneficial to our lives.D.They are disturbing and evil.
4. How did Dennis Tiwary deal with her anxiety?
A.She sought professional help and solved her anxiety.
B.She rejected being anxious and focused on her work.
C.She embraced her anxiety and tried her best to face it.
D.She was immersed in pain and resigned to calm down.
