In response to the call of nationwide labor education, a series of hands-on courses launched last term in our school, ranging from planting vegetables to making tradition handicrafts.
Sewing is one of my favorite course where I obtained a fundamental knowledge of essential life skills such as sewing a button, knit a scarf, and making a cushion by operating the sewing machine. It was sure a rewarding and fulfilling experience, that not only enriched our extracurricular life but also helped us acquire practical basic working capabilities for livelihood and form the good habit of labouring.
The hands-on courses have won a popularity among students and had a positive effect to the personal growth of everyone involved. If possible, an exhibition could be held to demonstrate students well-designed works and displayed their creativity.
Tom and David are all my nephews. They are of same age. Tom loves reading while David doesn’t. Why? It has something to do with what they were brought up. When Tom was about two years old, his parents started reading about stories to him. When he was a bit old, he was asked to read picture books by themselves. By six years old, he has formed the habit of reading regular. But David’s parents didn’t read to him and ask him to read. So it’s no wonder that David doesn’t read now. I think parents play a really important role in help their children fall in love with reading.

Recently I've heard an organization named the Girl Child Education Fund(GCEF), it supports the primary and secondary schooling of girls under the age of 18 in developing countries who parents have died. Your donation to the GCEF will go towards school fees, uniforms, shoes and books. The donation can be making by credit card, bank transfer or cheque. Since then the initiation of the programme, over 350 girls had been registered. A contribute of just US$200 will help cover the costs of school fees, uniforms, and book for primary education of a girl child for one year, and US$600 for her secondary education. Rough US$5,000 will secure the education of a girl throughout his primary and secondary schooling years.
