I was honored to be invited by Nadim to his sister's wedding in India. The wedding ceremony took place in a brightly     1     (decorate) hotel room. There were hundreds of guests, all     2     (dress) up in formal, colourful clothes. A few traditional customs made a deep     3     (impress) on me. One was the bridegroom's entrance on a beautiful white horse. Another was the part     4     Nadira’s father proudly led his daughter through rows of seats to her husband.

The Rio Carnival was very impressive, too.     5     (experience) the spirit of the Rio Carnival for myself I went to a street party. I could see a group of around 20 Brazilian dancers and a band in fancy costumes     6     (stand) in the street. Some of them carried flags,     7     blew in the wind. The band started playing an energetic samba beat, the dancers twisted and turned, and the crowd began to cheer, clap and sing. Chinese New Year,     1     starts on the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar （阴历），is considered as China's most important holiday. It     2     （know） as the Spring Festival.

It is said     1     a lost Vincent Van Gogh painting has recently appeared. The excitement     2     (generate) by the news proved again that more than 130 years after he died, people’s fascination with and appetite for anything to do with the Dutch artist remains as strong as ever.

The picture has to be authenticated (验证) by the Van Gogh Museum in the Dutch capital Amsterdam. According to the museum website, the news that he only sold one painting in his lifetime, before his    3    (die) at the age of 37, is untrue, but his stature (名声) and the price of his works     4    (increase) sharply in the recent years.
