Laziness is a state of mind. If you're determined to make a fresh start, but something always pulls you back, that something could be you. We choose our behaviors, even the lazy ones.     1

Admit that you are lazy.

Much like any recovery program, the first step is admitting there is a problem.     2     However, you don't have to experience any public humiliation. You can keep this to yourself. Nobody has to know that you're even thinking about it, let alone trying to change your lazy habits.

Stop delegating.

Lazy people like to delegate(委派)a lot.     3     You really want that pizza for dinner? Walk your feet to your car and go pick it up! Nowadays convenience has become a great selling point in the US because of laziness.

    4

Who is that? That is the person who is solely (唯一的)responsible for your successes and failures in life. Wave. Get acquainted. When you start taking responsibility for yourself and stop blaming others, you can begin to attack laziness at its core.

Make a plan.

Write out the things about you that are lazy, in every category of your life—health, diet, work, home, family. Evaluate just how much life you are wasting by being lazy. Notice how many things you are missing out.     5     Make a priority list.

A.Take a look in the mirror.
B.Get up and get it yourself.
C.Change some little things first.
D.If you can’t come to terms with it, you won't make any effort to change it.
E.Read on to find out how you can stop being lazy and start moving forward!
F.Then you can decide which aspects of your laziness you want to eliminate first.
G.However, continuing to be lazy means you are cheating yourself out of the one and only life you have.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了根据哈佛大学的研究人员的研究,充分利用闲谈的关键是简单地问对方后续问题。

【推荐1】“How are you?” These are the three most useless words in the world of communication. The person asking doesn’t really want to know, and the person responding doesn’t tell the truth.     1

But the key to making the most out of small talk, according to Harvard researchers, is, to simply ask the other person follow-up questions. In a series of experiments, researchers analyzed more than 300 online conversations and found that those who were asked more meaningful follow-up questions (a.k.a. questions that aren’t “how are you?” or “what do you do?”), found the other person much more likable.

So how do you move from tongue-tied to being an interesting person? It depends on questions you start with, and then you can focus on the stream of follow-up questions.     2

    3

Open your eyes before you open your mouth. Find something to focus on in your surroundings, like the piece of art on the wall, a family picture on their desk, a race car helmet, scattered coins from various countries and so on. There’s bound to be something that will spark small talk and help lead the conversation into unique follow-up questions.

Share some news (that actually happened).

If you have “news”, share it: “I adopted a pet over the weekend” or “My 6-year-old rode a bike for the first time yesterday”. Believe it or not, most people actually do want to know more about others, especially if they both work at the same company.

If you’re new to a company and leading a team, for example, start your first meeting by going around the room and asking each person to say one interesting thing that recently happened in their lives.     4

It’s not just what you say.

No matter what or how much you say, your tone of voice, facial expression and eye contact will broadcast so much more. In person, look at the other person when you speak, not at the conference table or the wall.     5     It’s not just what you say, but how you say it, that will help others connect with you.

A.Avoid any small talk in our daily life.
B.Be in the moment and observe your surroundings.
C.It will also contribute to your success in your work.
D.On the phone, smile — it will make your voice sound warmer.
E.What follows is a meaningless exchange with zero connection.
F.Here are some strategies on having a meaningful conversation.
G.Due to the momentary sharing, you’ve allowed everyone to feel more personally and genuinely connected with each other.

【推荐2】How to Avoid Leg Pain when running

While Running is fantastic exercise, it’s also a relatively high-impact activity. Pounding on the pavement can cause Leg Pain.     1

Spend longer warming up. If you commonly have leg pain when running, your muscles may not be sufficiently warm.     2     Then include dynamic stretching in your warmup routine after a brief walk. These types of stretching can better loosen your leg muscles and prepare them for a run, which may help you avoid leg pain.

Evaluate your form.     3     Get a coach or experienced runner to observe you running and give you tips on what might be causing your leg pain. For example, if you’re leaning too far forward when you run, you can pull too hard on your calves(小腿肚). This can result in the pain of the lower legs.

4     If you’re getting cramps (抽筋) or other leg pain while running, it may be because you need to build up your cardiovascular (心血管) fitness more gradually. Start by walking or jogging at a slower pace, and slowly work up to faster speeds.

Use relaxation techniques while running. Deep breathing and other relaxation techniques give you better mental focus.     5     which can keep you from developing leg pain. You can find recordings online or on your favorite music app. These recordings can help you focus on your breath and reach a more relaxed state as you run.

Wash your hands often. The best way that you can help prevent the spread of virus is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Those types of virus are often spread when a person sneezes or coughs.     5     And do the same if it’s you that may be sick. That way, the virus will be less likely to spread.
