阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Some times people complain that getting to work in a big city is no easy matter, just like the popular saying goes, "Taking a bus is too crowded, getting a taxi is too expensive, buying a car is not practical. " It seems that traffic jams and cities go hand in hand. Everyone complains about being stuck in traffic, however, like the weather, no one seems to do anything about it. Needless to say, traffic jam occurs where there are lots of people but limited spaces. However, there are indeed some things: you can do to reduce the time you spend in traffic jams.

For example, the highway is not always the fastest way to get from Point A to Point B. Research the area and check online maps to see if you can find a shorter route to work, which usually flows more smoothly during rush hour and can help reduce much of your driving time. From the above you may know that alternative route is of great importance.

Let's take another example. Most of the population works from8 am to 5 pm, which means that the majority of traffic jams happen around 7 am and 6 pm. So if you want to avoid a traffic jam, talk to your manager about arriving at the office earlier and leaving earlier, If some of us and companies can do like this, the conditions of heavy traffic can be changed in a way.

Finally you can take gymnastics, dance or yoga lasses after work to avoid traffic jams. Actually, there are many reasons for us to take exercise classes and going to the gym, instead of shopping and entertaining friends after work. This is a clever solution that can also help people improve their health and meet others with similar interests.

When Jack was a kid, he and his family left Britain and moved to a foreign country. Although his family was poor, he became a very excellent engineer after college. He knew a lot about the train. For example, he knew that when a fast-moving train’s speed has a sudden change, it’s probably because the track is broken at some distance.

After college, Jack gained a teaching job in a British university. So one summer day he left for Britain by ship. Being poor, he wore worn-out clothes, which were even a little messy. But he didn’t care about it at all. When he landed on the British shore, he took a train to the city where the university was. On the train, he found other passengers were all rich gentlemen, who wore nice suits and shoes. And he could see all of them were not friendly to him.

After the train started, they began making fun of him. They were angry, unsatisfied with the train guard who allowed him to get on the train with them. Some even wanted to pull the alarm to stop the train.

However, all of this didn’t have an effect on Jack. He was sitting there calmly, focusing on the train’s condition, including its speed and sound produced by the wheels running on the track. Each time he took a train, he’d pay attention to the train’s sound, speed, etc. By doing so, he could feel the train and the track and check whether the train had any possible danger.

That day, when the train was already running at a high speed, the gentlemen still continued to show their unfriendly behaviors to Jack. But Jack remained calm and still focused on the train’s running. One hour later, he found there was a sudden change in the train’s speed. After further feeling the train’s condition, he could decide the track was 100% broken at some distance.

【推荐3】阅读下面短文, 根据所给情节进行续写, 使之构成一个完整的故事。

Jennifer, a senior high school student, was driving the old blue sedan(轿车) owned by her father. She lived on a farm about ten miles away from downtown and used the car back and forth every day.

Jennifer had driven into town that night to see a basketball game between Rockets and Warriors. Now she was on her way home, thinking about the game-winning shot by Harden. As she pulled away from the stadium, she noticed a red pick-up truck follow her out of the parking lot. A few minutes later the truck was still behind her.

“I guess we're going in the same direction,” she whispered to herself. Anxious and suspicious, she began to watch the truck in her mirror. When she changed her speed, the driver of the truck changed his speed too! When she passed a car, so he did.

Then he turned on his high beams, flooding her car with light. He left them on for almost a minute. “He probably wants to pass me,” she tried to comfort herself. But this time she was becoming uneasy. Usually, Jennifer drove home over a back road. It was a narrow and bumpy country road with no few lights, so not too many people went that way. But when she turned onto that road, so did the truck.

“I’ve got to get away from him,” she was seized with sudden trembling and became deathly pale, feeling cold sweat flowing down her back, and without a second thought, Jennifer began to slam on the gas and picked up her speed. Then he turned his high beams on again. After a minute, he turned them off. Then he turned them on again and off again.

She changed gears(档位) and drove even faster, but the truck driver stayed right behind her. Then he turned his high beams on again. Once more her car was ablaze(明亮的)with light. “What is he doing?” she wondered. “What does he want?” Then he turned them off again. But a minute later he had them on again, and he left them on.
