By the 1940s, New Hope’s name in the arts became legendary, for many writers of plays, directors and actors travelled through its busy streets. This tradition continues today. Hollywood and New York-based producers steal away to the community’s varied streets on weekends and holidays.
In response to this cultural environment, businessman and writer D. F. Whipple, decided to set up the New Hope film festival and became active on January 1, 2009. Whipple formed a group of artists who shared his love for discovering and encouraging independent filmmakers, many of whom will make world and U.S. first-shows at our festival.
The festival’s directors welcome you to our site and we hope you’ll join us at the exhibition.
Tickets: Advance tickets go on sale on June 15 and tickets will be got at the venues for any shows. Visit the free online Offical Guide for details on venues, schedules and prices. To get tickets in advance, please follow these easy steps:

* Visit Brown Paper Tickets.com — The festival’s offical ticket vendor for the second year running. Tickets are available by show names.
Advance ticket sales end at midnight before each show. If you miss it, you can still try to get tickets at the door. Tickets prices at the door are $12 for visitors, $10 for students and seniors (65+) and $6 for matinees. To find shows, check out the schedule in our Offical Guide.

When you’re pressed for time on a business trip, nothing can annoy you more than a slow hotel check-in process. On your next trip, try these hotels that offer a speedier check-in process.
◆ Marriott Detroit Airport
Another option for business travelers in a hurry: Marriott is rolling out its mobile check-in app to 325 hotels this year, including the Marriott Detroit Airport hotel. (I’ve tested the app itself but not for a real visit quite yet.) here is the basic idea: you download the iPhone or Android app. The night before, you can “check-in” virtually. When you arrive, you get an alert that the room is ready and your key, which is already tied to your reservation, is waiting for you at the desk.
◆Hyatt Regency Minneapolis
I happened to stay at this hotel recently and liked how fast the kiosk check-in works. The kiosk asks you to insert your credit card, similar to an airport terminal. The whole process took about 3 minutes. When I left, I was equally impressed with the fast check-out: An agent meets you in the lobby with, an iPad and asks for an email to use for a receipt. The big advantage: you never have to wait in line.
◆Radisson LaCrosse
The Radisson is trying to make the kiosk process even faster. At a few select hotels like the Radisson Lacrosse in Wisconsin, you use a mobile app to register and then receive a barcode by email or text. When you get to the kiosk, you can scan the barcode to get your key without any other steps required. It’s super fast. You can find this new check-in system at the Radisson hotels in Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Phoenix as well.

Nowadays, if we do not rush to read four of this year’s major prize winning books, we will feel guilty at how far behind we are. We think that there should be no limit to how much we read because in answer to the question of why we read, there is only one response that will ever be ambitious enough: we read in order to know everything.
But this tiring approach to reading does not make us particularly happy. So in order to ease and simplify our lives, we might have a much more limited, focused and useful goal. We might, for example, read in order to learn to be content. Nothing less and nothing more.
With this new, far more targeted ambition in mind, much of the pressure to read constantly and randomly starts to fade. Once we know that we are reading to be content, we don’t need to chase every book published this season. We can zero in on titles that best explain what we need. So for example, we may need a few key books that will teach us about how families work and how they might work better, that can take us through how to find a job, or how to develop the courage to develop our opportunities.
The more we understand what reading is for us, the more we can enjoy close relationships with a few works only. The truly well-read person isn’t the one who has read a huge number of books, but someone who has let themselves be deeply shaped by just a few, very well-chosen titles.

It can be a kind of workout, and it can also be such a great way to discover new places and really enjoy the journey throughout the city. Here are a few of my favourite routes, tips, and tricks.
Central Park Loop(环线)
The 6.1mile loop is a standard for city cyclists of all fitness levels. A comfortable place in the middle of crowded Manhattan, the Central Park Loop is a great way to cycle without worrying about taxi doors suddenly opening or dealing with car traffic. There are so many ponds, lakes and complex bridges that you won't spot on a picnic in Sheep Meadow.
Prospect Park Loop
It's like Central Park but without tourists. My boyfriend and I regularly bike down to Prospect Park to do the loop, and it's my favourite way to relax after a stressful day. Prospect Park was designed by the same man who did Central Park, so there are a lot of similarities—gently rolling hills, plenty of shade, lakes, and ponds.
Governors Island
Governors Island is one of the few spaces in the New York City area where there are basically no cars! While the island is easy enough to walk around, it's not that big. But it's just big enough to make a few loops really enjoyable.
Manhattan Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge might be the famous one. And the Williamsburg Bridge is a necessity for people, but the slope(斜坡) makes it easy to take exercise. Manhattan Bridge isn't much of a looker, but it's my favourite bridge to bike across: fairly easy incline, good views.
