Far, far away, there is a king who is unkind to his people. All his people ___________ him. One hot day, the King goes to ___________ by himself in the river. You can see kangaroos everywhere in Australia. They appear on TV, in books and in the shops. The government even put them on passports (护照). There are many kangaroos in Australia and not only in zoos. You can see them everywhere outside the cities and towns.

Kangaroos have very strong legs. So they’re very good at jumping. Kangaroos can jump 9 metres. They can jump very fast-30 kilometres per hour. Their tails are very strong, too. So when they want to have a rest, they rest on their tails. Kangaroos are also very good at looking after their babies. Mother kangaroos keep their babies safe in their pockets. Baby kangaroos are very small-only 3 centimetres long. They cannot jump and they cannot see. They can see when they are 9 weeks old. They can jump when they are 8 months old. Kangaroos cannot run and they cannot walk.

In Australia, there are more kangaroos than people in this country. Kangaroos eat lots of grass on grasslands. This year, the country plans to kill (杀死) about 1,000,000 kangaroos. Many people don’t think that it’s right to kill kangaroos but the government (政府) thinks that it helps the farmers.

Laura is at the airport (机场). She waits for her plane. Her plane is to Berlin, and it is 4 hours away. Laura walks around the shops.

After an hour she wants to go to the bathroom. But she doesn’t find it. “Where is the bathroom?” she says. She starts asking other people. Laura says to a man, “Excuse me, sir. Could you please tell me where the bathroom is?” The man says, “You mean the restroom, right?” Laura says, “No, I mean the bathroom.” “Well, the restroom is over there.” He says and walks away.

Laura doesn’t understand. She asks a woman, “Excuse me, Madam. Could you please tell me where the bathroom is?” The restroom is over there,” the lady answers and walks away. Laura is confused. “What’s wrong? I need to use the bathroom and they tell me to rest!”

Then Laura gives up (放弃). She feels tired and thinks she needs to rest.

She walks to the restroom. Now she is surprised. She realized (意识到) the restroom is the name for a public (公共的) bathroom.

Where is Love? How can we find Love?

Once a little boy wants to meet Love. He knows it is a long trip to where Love lives, so he gets his things ready with some pizzas and drinks and starts off. When he passes three streets, he sees an old woman sitting in the park and watching some birds. She looks very hungry. The boy gives her a pizza. She takes it and smiles at him. The smile is so beautiful that he wants to see it again, so he gives her a Coke. She smiles once again. The boy is very happy.

They sit there all the afternoon, eating and smiling, but they say nothing. When it grows dark, the boy decides to leave. But before he goes more than a few steps, he turns around, runs back to the old woman and gives her a hug (拥抱). The woman gives him her biggest smile ever.

When the boy opens the door of his house, his mother is surprised by the look of joy( 快乐) on his face and asks what makes him so happy. “I had lunch with Love. She has got the most beautiful smile in the world.” At the same time, the old woman’s son is also surprised at his mother’s pleasure and asks why.

“I ate a pizza in the park with Love,” she said, “and he is much younger than I expected.”
