I used to hate running. In middle school, I found running really tiring(使人疲惫的) and I was always one of the ______ students to cross the finish line. Then, in 2018, my ______ asked me if I would like to run a 10K event with him. I answered without thinking, “No way! I hate running.”

Interesting festivals in the world

Spain holds a special festival—Throwing tomatoes every year. On that day, the tomatoes are being thrown, not eaten. The festival takes place during the last Wednesday in August. Trucks carry tomatoes into the square. People rush to the tomatoes and throw them into the crowd.

This festival is celebrated on the last Monday in May. It takes place on Cooper’s Hill. A large wheel of cheese is rolled down Cooper’s Hill. The festival is actually a race where people run down the hill after the rolling cheese. The first person to cross the finish line at the foot of the hill wins the cheese.

The Burning Man Festival lasts a week. It is from the Monday before Labor Day to Labor Day(which falls on the first Monday in September in America). The festival takes place in the Black Rock Desert. The best part of the festival is the burning of a large sculpture（雕塑品） of a man.

The Songkran Festival is the celebration of the New Year in Thailand. Rather than a single day, Thailand celebrates the New Year from April 13^th to April 15^th. Thai people run after each other, pouring water. Songkran is one of the most important reasons why foreigners travel to the beautiful land.

When my sister Gina was born, she had a problem with her heart. Her heart was pretty weak in the beginning and she stayed in hospital for a month. The first few years were very difficult. She had five operations (手术) before she was three years old. She had trouble walking, playing with other children, and going to school.

Although Gina couldn’t laugh or talk, we all knew that she just needed love and care. Our parents wanted to take Gina to a special place in Florida where kids could swim with dolphins(海豚). Gina was afraid of swimming with them because she had never been around dolphins before. We had also never traveled that far as a family.

We got to Florida then. It was a place where kids with special needs like Gina could come and spend time. I thought it was going to be a vacation, but it wasn’t. Gina had to work hard every day for a week.

The trip was amazing. Gina laughed and clapped when she saw the dolphins, and the dolphins splashed(溅起水花) when they saw Gina. They swam together all day. Gina was able to move her body more than she normally did at home. Mom and Dad were proud of Gina. I was, too.

George didn’t want to recall (回忆起) one of his trips a few months ago. He had two sets of meetings to go to over two days. The first set of meetings was in Birmingham. About half way there, he stopped at a restaurant to get some breakfast. He ordered a hamburger and a cup of coffee. But as he was drinking his coffee, he carelessly dropped some down the front of his shirt. He went to the washroom to clean it off, but the stain ( 污渍) was still there. He didn’t have time to stop at a shop to get a new shirt, so he just had to go to the meetings in the dirty one.

The meetings went well. After lunch, George drove up to Manchester for the next set of meetings. But after he drove for 30 minutes, the car suddenly stopped. He’d run out of petrol (汽油). Luckily, there was a petrol station about 100 meters away.

George finally got to Manchester and found his hotel. The following day, he went to two meetings and then had lunch. In the afternoon, he went to three more meetings, which all went well. Later, that evening, he met up with some friends in the city center, and they went to a music pub (酒吧). He put his bag beside the chair where he was sitting and he didn’t pay much attention to it. Anyway, when it was time to go, the bag was missing. Someone had stolen it.

Emily and her parents live in a big city. They like to get close to nature, so they go to the countryside on vacation     41     time to time.
