Have you tried to run or walk for exercise and then given up? If you answered yes, you should try a new kind of exercise: aquatic(水中的)exercise. Aquatic exercise is like exercise on land, but you do it in a swimming pool. More and more people are trying aquatic exercise.
Aquatic exercise feels easier than exercising on land. Why? You weigh about 90% less in the pool. It is better for your knees than running or walking. Water is about 1, 000 times thicker and heavier than air. To move through the water, your body has to work four times as hard. As a result, you can burn more calories(卡路里).
In fact, most people say they feel more relaxed in the water. They stop thinking about the things that make them worried. They feel in control of their bodies. The cool quiet environment makes them feel good.
But what if you are afraid of the water? No problem! There is nothing to worry about. Aquatic exercise is safe and easy to learn. It doesn’t require any special skills. You don’t even need to know how to swim. Aquatic exercise is for everyone.
51. What do most people think of aquatic exercise?A.Worrying. | B.Surprising. | C.Relaxing. | D.Boring. |
A.done in group | B.fit for everyone |
C.difficult to learn | D.done with special skills |
A.Difference between land and water. | B.The advantages(好处)of aquatic exercise. |
C.The ways to do aquatic exercise. | D.Weight change of one’s body. |
I graduated from college recently and moved to Washington by myself. While I was in college, it was really easy to meet new people. But “out in the real world”, I was finding it really hard. I live in a big city, and it seems like everyone around me is busy or already has all the friends they want. I was feeling so discouraged(沮丧的)and I didn’t know what to do, so I called my sister for some advice.
My sister is six years older than I am, so she’s been through all this already. She’s been helping me with my problems all my life. When I explained my problem, she understood completely. She said, “Why don’t you try meeting people online?”
“Online? Are you kidding?” I asked. “A friend of mine chatted with a guy online, and when she finally met him face to face, he was nothing like what he said.”
My sister laughed. “You don’t have to look for dates online,” she said. “But you can find other people like you—people who have just moved to town and want to make some new friends. When I first moved to New York after college, I found a book club and a football team online. I met a lot of people that way.”
“But you don’t even like football!” I said.
“I know,” she replied. “But that didn’t matter, I still had a lot of fun. You played volleyball in college. Why don’t you look for a volleyball team to join? Or an art class?”
“Yeah! I saw a website about volunteering the other day?” I said. “I could volunteer for an organization here in Washington. I bet I could meet a lot of really nice people that way.”
“Good idea!” my sister answered excitedly. “Hey, you might even meet the perfect guy.”
“OK, now you’re starting to sound like Mom,” I said. “Thanks a lot for the advice. I’m going online right now. I’ll let you know what happens. Will you be home tonight?”
“No, but I’ll be here all day tomorrow, so give me a call,” my sister replied. “Good luck!”

How time flies! We just finished making our short film Summer. I made so many unforgettable memories at Toto’s Film-making Class. During the 7-day program, 50 students from China and South Korea were divided into groups to create our own films. South Korea’s CJ Corporation in Shenyang organized the program.
Summer tells the story of Annie and Dawn. Though Dawn is blind, they both dream of being pianists. They become best friends while working hard to realize their dreams. Through this movie, we want to tell the audience that friendship is important even when you are busy chasing(追逐) your dreams.
I played the role of Dawn in the movie. It was very challenging to act like a blind person without closing my eyes. After practicing over and over again at night, 1 finally got good at it!
We all worked hard to make the movie. Our director worked until midnight every day. And he was very patient while teaching us how to act and shoot(拍摄). I remember shooting a traffic accident scene. Our director knelt(跪下) on the ground to show us how to do it. The actresses(女演员)had to foil to the ground about 20 times to get the right shot. It was very hot and dry and the ground was hard, but we never gave up.
On Aug 1, our movie was shown at CJ CGV cinema in Shenyang, I got the Best Acting Award. Our team took the highest award — the Best Movie Award. We were so excited that we almost cried.
I learned a lot that week. It is hard to make a movie, but if you try your best, you can do anything you set your mind to. I also made a lot of friends. I will never forget this summer.

When you and your friends ever talk about your dreams, you might have noticed something interesting—some of your friends rarely remember their dreams, but some can always describe their dreams very clearly. What makes those people different?
Well, there are two different types of dreamers—low dream recallers(回忆者)and high dream recallers.
Low dream recallers usually remember their dreams only twice a month. But high dream recallers are able to remember them about five mornings a week. And a new study suggests that activity in a certain part of the brain could have something to do with it.
Perrine Ruby, a French researcher, studied 41 people(21 high dream recallers and 20 low dream recallers)and recorded(记录)their brain activity.
She found that a part of the brain called the temporo-parietal junction(颞顶联合区)was more active in high dream recallers than in low dream recallers—both when they were sleeping and awake.
This brain area collects and processes information from the outside world. This means that high dream recallers know more about what’s happening around them. For example, when they are awake, they respond(反应)more strongly to hearing their own names, and when they are sleeping, they are woken more easily by sounds and movements.
By closely studying people’s brain activities, Ruby found that high dream recallers have twice as much “wakefulness time” during sleep as low dream recallers do. And it is during these short times of wakefulness that the brain memorizes dreams.
“The sleeping brain is not able to memorize new information,” Ruby told The Washington Post. “It needs to wake up to be able to do that. “This is not hard to understand. Just try to think of your own sleeping experiences. If you are restless (不安的)during the night, you are more likely to remember your dreams. If you sleep well, you will remember little in the morning, and this is because you never get a chance to remember,” Robert Stickgold, a Harvard Medical School researcher, told The Washington Post.
62. According to the article, high dream recallers ________.A.have very little brain activity during sleep |
B.don’t know how to describe their dreams |
C.can remember their dreams clearly |
D.remember their dreams twice a week |
A.have higher sleep quality(质量) | B.have more sleepless nights |
C.are more easily woken at night | D.respond faster when hearing their names |
A.To show the benefits(好处)of being a low dream recaller. |
B.To suggest what to do to become a low dream recaller. |
C.To get the readers interested in future studies. |
D.To further explain what Ruby said. |
A.How we can remember our dreams more often. |
B.Why some can remember dreams while some can’t. |
C.Low dream recallers are less active than high dream recallers. |

Making a public speech is the thing that most people don’t want to do. The reason is that we are all afraid of making mistakes in front of others. The more important the speech is, the more frightened we will be. But forget it now. Public speaking is easy. It’s just a simple talking, Although Pm a shy man, I’ve been making speeches and talking on radio and television for more than 30 years. Anybody who can talk can speak in public. Here are some of the lessons I have learned.
Keep your speech simple. Your audience(听众) can’t take all of your main ideas, and they can only remember one or two of them, not ten or twenty. So you should prepare one or two of your main ideas very well. But if you can’t express what you want to say, then your speech will not be paid attention to. And if you don’t have a clear idea of what you want to say, your audience won’t, either.
Organize your speech well. No matter how long or short your speech is, you have to organize your speech—how you are going to open or begin, what main points you want to make and how you’re going to close or end. A strong close is usually very important and critical(关键的): the last thing you say is what your audience will most likely remember. If not, they will be confused.
Keep your speech not long. The standard(标准的) length of a speech is usually 12 minutes. Most people can’t put their minds in one thing for too long time, which will make them tired and lose their interest. If you pay no attention to your audience’s reaction(反应), the audience will get bored. Of course, your speech will fail.
Following these suggestions above, you can make a good speech in public, and you will be an excellent speaker, I think.
