In a town of Belgium, the second Sunday of May is Cat’s Day. People there play some interesting games with their cats to have fun. They can get some lovely toys from people.

In Indonesia, May 7th is Monkey’s Day. People give much delicious food to monkeys. They also play music for monkeys. All the monkeys will have a good time on that day.

We live in the same world with animals, so we need to be friendly to them and love them.

I’m so happy to know that you are a middle school student now. I want to give you some suggestions (建议) about your school life.

Try to be an active student and answer the teachers’ questions. You can always put up your hands in class, and ask your teachers for help after class.

Be nice to your teachers and classmates. Be a friendly boy and help them when they are in trouble (困难). Play some sports with some of your classmates in P.E. classes.

Study hard to learn all the subjects. I know you do well in math, but you should also study other subjects like English, Chinese, history and geography.

Every one of us needs love. But do you know where we can find love?

There’s a little girl, and she always wants to know what love is and how she can meet love. She asks her friend and parents, but they don’t know. Then she really wants to find it, so she takes some food and drinks with her and goes out.

She walks for a long time and she sees an old man sitting on a chair. He looks very hungry (饥饿的), so she gives her food to him. The old man takes all the food and says “thank you” with a smile (微笑). The smile is so beautiful that the little girl wants to see it again (再次). So she gives her favorite drink to him, and again, the old man smiles to her. The little girl feels so happy. She sits with the old man all the afternoon, eating and smiling.

It’s time for dinner, and the little girl needs to go home. She says goodbye to the man, and goes home. When she opens the door, her mother is surprised (惊讶的) at the smile on her face. “What makes you so happy?” Her mother asks. “Because I have lunch with love. He has the most beautiful smile in the world.”

At the same time, at the old man’s home, his son is also surprised at his father’s smile and asks why. “I eat and drink with love at the lunch time,” he says, “she is so kind and she is so young.”

What do you usually do in your free time? Play sports? Watch TV? How about reading books? A famous saying goes like this “Knowledge (知识) is power. And the knowledge is in the books.” Books are important in our life. Reading books is good for us. It can help us to be good at our subjects. Also, it can help us see a new and different world. All the great men like reading, like Zhou Enlai and Lu Xun.

Books are treasure (财富) and we must love them. But before you read, choose (选择) a good one. Ask your parents or teachers about the books to read. Be sure you are interested in them. There are many different kinds of books. I like history because I can learn something from it.
