There are four friends at a restaurant. They’re waiting for a fifth friend who is already 20 minutes late. They want to know if(是否)he will say “sorry” for being late. After another five minutes, he finally arrives.
However, he doesn’t say “sorry” when he arrives. To their surprise, he simply says, “Hey, thanks for waiting.” The others say “You are welcome” and then they open their menus and start to order food. Life goes on and all is fine.
Canadian sociologist(社会学家)Maja Jovanovic tells this story in a TED speech.
In her speech, Jovanovic says that sometimes we should say “thank you” instead of “sorry”. For example, you are feeling sad about something, and you’re talking about it with a friend for long.
