Animal behavior is an interesting and attractive study. Scientists research the ways animals use to look for food. They study how animals protect themselves from their predators, and which animals kill other animals for food. All of this helps us understand how useful animals can be.
Each country or culture raise some animals for food. In the United States, people mainly eat meat from cows, chickens and pigs. In other countries, people might raise sheep or buffalo for meat. These differences come in part from weather and other environmental conditions. People around the world eat all kinds of fish and shellfish from oceans and rivers. In some countries, people don’t always choose some animals, such as dogs, for food while in other countries such animals may become people’s favorite food.
In West Africa, animals provide humans with more than food. They have been helping people do daily work for thousands of years. Horses, oxen, and other work animals pull heavy things. Elephants, camels, and other animals carry people and things from place to place. Carrier pigeons (信鸽) have been used to send messages.
People also receive health benefits from animals. For example, dogs and cats can help calm people down. This is helpful for people to fight illnesses. Animals can also reduce stress, helping people to draw their attention to learning new information, such as reading. When people are walking their dogs or horses, it encourages exercise.
Animals and humans share space on Earth, so keeping a healthy relationship with animals around us is in our best interest.

Embrace Again, a movie describing love between ordinary people during the COVID-19 lockdown in Wuhan, Hubei Province, focuses on the ordinary people in our daily life, making the movie more real and closer to life.
The movie is heartwarming, reflecting the ordinary people of Wuhan during the epidemic(疫情). The main character of Embrace Again is A Yong, which has archetype in real life. Wang Yong, who is described as the character of Moving China in 2021, is a deliveryman and volunteer in Wuhan. He takes the responsibility of transporting medical workers and medical equipment. Although he’s initially afraid of the virus, righteousness and goodness pushes him to participate in the anti-epidemic war.
Xue Xiaolu, the female director, catches more importance to the value of female in the anti-epidemic war. The film presents more from a woman’s point of view. Wu Ge, the female food delivery driver, works very hard and participates with the team of volunteers. The doctor Xie has retired but still insists on going to the frontline.
Embrace Again took me back to the winter when COVID-19 broke out. I still remember the empty shelves of the supermarket in my hometown. It was not only because people were on holiday during Spring Festival, but also because the epidemic affected the transportation of goods. Buying so much instant noodles, rice and so on made almost everyone nervous. Everyone wore masks and fought against the virus.
Embrace Again also shows us the meaning of life and death. The epidemic is scary, but the love can make people face the fear. COVID-19 is frightening, many people sacrificed. However, new life also grew. So, embrace and cherish the people who are with you now!

Everybody has a brain, but not many people know how the brain works. Some people believe that the brain is like the hard disk of a computer. We use it to store files——pictures, languages(words, texts, sounds)and so on. Others compare the brain to a huge cupboard with lots of shelves and boxes in it. We put information into these boxes and hope to find it again later.
The brain is not a computer disk, and it isn’t a cupboard. Look at the picture here. It looks a bit like weeds(杂草) in a garden, doesn’t it? The picture actually shows a child’s neocortex—a part of the brain that controls sight and hearing. You can guess what happens—more “weeds” grow as the child gets older. Scientists call these neuronal(神经元的) networks. The networks grow around our neurons. What makes them grow? Learning! “Learning is brain change,” says Professor James Zull from Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. “Without learning, nothing changes in the brain. For every new word you learn in your English lesson, every problem you solve in maths, every new song you learn to sing, a neuronal network grows in your brain and the brain changes.”
The more neuronal network we grow, the better we can think and the better we remember. You may wonder if there is anything you can do to make the networks in your brain grow better. Professor Zull says yes, there is. He says that brain change is strongest when you are interested in and like what you are learning, when you are in control of what you learn and when you get challenging tasks that make you think hard. Understanding a challenging task makes you feel good and develops your brain.
