Sun Jiarui, a fourth grader at a primary school in the city of Wuxi, East China’s Jiangsu province, can cook more than 50 delicacies, which is not easy for a child of her age.
“She started helping out with chores when she was around 4 or 5.
“It’s not bad for her to master some hands-on (动手的) life skills, so she can better take care of herself in the future,” Sun Yadong adds. He made a few videos of his daughter’s learning process and posted them online.
“It was out of curiosity (好奇心) at first, but gradually, I fell in love with cooking,” says Jiarui. “
Sun Jiarui has become a teacher in her school’s cooking class. “We have set up a cooking studio at school and she is one of the instructors,” says Li Hua, principal of the school.
“
“I hope that the course will offer us more hands-on opportunities to master basic life skills and share the burden with our parents,” says Jiarui.

2 . How much should a parent be involved in (参与) a child’s life? Actually how a child is raised is a cultural choice. That is, every country or culture seems to have a typical (典型的) way to raise children.
One difference on raising children is at what age and to what extent (程度) they are given freedom outside the home. Parents in Norway believe that it is better for children to learn to be independent from a very early age. Almost all children are sent to daycare at the age of one in Norway. Japan also has similar ideas when it comes to raising independent children. In fact, it would be common for a Japanese child to walk or ride a bike or take a public bus to school alone.
Another difference in child raising is found in how parents guide a child on his or her path (道路) in life. In many Asian cultures, studying begins at a very early age. The idea is that it is never too early to start learning. The parent’s role is to provide the ways for education through private lessons or lessons in school. The goal for them is to raise smart and successful children. However, parents in the Netherlands believe it is not good to push a child too hard in their studies. Instead, the key is more on letting children enjoy childhood and get plenty of rest.
In the end, there doesn’t seem to be a right or wrong way to raise children. One way is not better than another. However, culture and how we are raised affect (影响) who we become. Understanding how we were raised and the values of our culture can help us make sense of our beliefs and views.

4 . Growth mindset (成长型思维) is an idea that has got so much attention in psychology (心理学) and education. It is based on the belief that intelligence and abilities are not fixed, but can be developed and improved through effort.
There are plenty of advantages of having a growth mindset. People with a growth mindset are more likely to take risks and be creative.

Your parents are the first ones to help you. They might be able to show you how to do a difficult math problem or help you think of a subject to write about for English class. But they can also be helpful by finding that perfect place in the house for you to do your homework and keeping supplies, like pencils, on hand.
Teachers are also important resources (资源) for you because they can give you advice on the homework you’re having trouble with. They can help you set up a good example for writing down your schoolwork and remembering to put all the necessary books and papers in your bag. Teachers can give you study tips and offer ideas about how to do homework. Helping students to learn is their job. So be sure to ask them for advice!
Many schools, towns, and cities offer after-school care for kids. Often, homework help is part of the program, you’ll be able to get some help from adults there, as well as from other kids.
You can also use the Internet to visit online homework help sites. These sites can direct you to good resources for researching and offering tips about many subjects. But don’t just copy information from an Internet website. This is a form of cheating, so talk with your teachers about how to use these resources correctly.

A primary school in the southwest of China has become popular recently. In this school students and teachers can have free meals. There are more than 1,000 students and teachers in this school. With enough farmland, students and teachers plant vegetables and keep pigs, sheep and chickens. Some of what is produced is sold at the market. The rest will be used to feed students and teachers. And this school has fed itself for 15 years.
Each class has a piece of land to plant vegetables or keep animals. Students do farm work twice a week with the help of teachers. There is also a zoo in the school. It helps students get on with animals. The school has set up a greenhouse with fruit trees for students to learn about nature, instead of just listening to teachers in the classroom.
“This is not simply a farm. This is connected with what the whole school can eat and also the quality of life of students and teachers,” said the school’s headmaster.
