Doing exercise is an important part of healthy lifestyle. But the novel coronavirus（新冠病毒）has kept millions of people from taking part in outdoor activities since late January. As a result, indoor activities have become an important way for people to keep healthy, especially during a special time like this.

These days, the sports community, medical experts and public health officials have all been actively suggesting indoor exercise to help people fight against the novel coronavirus. And ba duan jin, an easy-to-learn qigong exercise, is among the most popular exercises. After doing the exercise, people may feel like they are wearing a dress made of silk fabric, so it’s also called Eight Pieces of Brocade（锦缎）.

Created nearly a thousand years ago, ba duan jin has been practiced for centuries in China. Nowadays, it is almost as popular as Tai chi. especially among the old. The exercise doesn’t require much space or time. As long as people master special breathing and concentration（专注） skills, ba duan jin can help them keep both the body and mind healthy with eight well-designed movements.

This kind of qigong focuses on（聚焦于） the breathing. Through deep and slow breathing skills, it will allow the muscles to relax and empty the mind of all thoughts. The brain will get a chance to rest, and more oxygen will reach.

Ba duan jin is reported to be helpful to many health problems. What’s more, it can be learnt without a teacher. Although it may be practised by following a few pictures and instructions, success really depends on concentration, relaxation and daily practice.

The Notting Hill is only small area in west London, but the Notting Hill Carnival (诺丁山狂欢节) attracts millions of people from all over the world to have fun. The carnival is at the end of August each year, and the main days are Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

The festival started as local West Indian event, but from small procession (游行) through the streets of Notting Hill, it’s a huge multi-cultural arts festival now. In fact, it is the largest street carnival (嘉年华会狂欢节) in Europe. Only the Rio Carnival in Brazil is bigger.

At the heart of the festival is spectacular (壮观的) parade (游行). The carnival route (路线) is three miles long and hundreds of groups move along it. There’s music decorated floats, elaborated costurnes and dancing. There are also live stages where artists from all over the world perform, but there is a lot more to the festival than just music. There are 300 food stalls selling international food so you can’t get hungry. There’s theatre, arts and crafts, too.

You can sing and dance or you can just watch. But there’s no need to be quiet.

You can buy whistles and blow them to make lots of noise! The Notting Hill Carnival welcomes visitors and tourists.

Who was the most talented person that ever lived? It might be Leonardo da Vinci. The Italian was a painter, sculptor （雕塑家）and inventor. This year, we celebrated his 568th birthday on April 15th.

Da Vinci is still widely considered as one of the greatest painters. His most famous painting, the Mona Lisa which still sits in the Louvre Museum（卢浮宫）, is one of the greatest art works of the world.

The Mona Lisa is famous for the mysterious（神秘的）smile. What is the reason for the woman’s smile? This is a question always asked, but it remains unanswered to this day.

Some believe that the Mona Lisa is actually a portrait（肖像）of Da Vinci himself! This is because some of her expressions on the face are similar to those in one of Da Vinci’s self-portraits. Others might suggest she smiles because she has lost her teeth! We will never know for sure. It is just fun to guess!

But the new research from scientists showed that some people even think she isn’t smiling but looks unhappy. The scientists also said that if Mona Lisa doesn’t look happy to you, it might be because of your own feelings.

The researchers showed 43 people two groups of pictures. Group One all had neutral（中性的）faces. Group Two had happy and angry faces. Each time, people saw two pictures, one from Group One, the other from Group Two. Later, they described what the neutral faces were like. When people saw a neutral face after a happy face, most of them thought it was smiling. When they saw a neutral face after a sad face, most of them thought it had a sad expression. Scientists believe our brain has predictive（预测性的）power. People use their past experiences to predict what they are going to experience next.

“________”said Erika Siegel, one of the researchers, “However, if you see the Mona Lisa after you have great fun, you can see her beautiful smile.”

3D printing is becoming more and more popular. We are now able to create things we need very quickly and easily using 3D printers. But can you imagine printing food?

Some scientists are trying to change the dining experience by doing this. They hope that having a 3D printer in the kitchen will be as common as the microwave oven or blender (搅拌器).

Scientists say that it’ll be quite easy. You simply have to select a recipe (食谱) and put the uncooked food ‘inks’ into the printer. You can also modify (修改) the instructions to make the food exactly how you want it. This means that it would be very quick and easy to create tasty and healthy meals.

Using 3D printers to create your meals would save the environment. There would be less need for traditional growing shipping and packaging steps as food production would be a lot quicker and better. For example, tree leaves and insects could be turned into tasty products.

Printing food could also help people who have swallowing (吞咽) trouble. They could program the printer to print softer kinds of their favorite foods so that they would not have difficulties in swallowing them.

However, some people think that future of 3D food printing would be disaster (灾难). It could take away many jobs, including those from growing, shipping and packaging food. Imagine a world where there was no need for farming or growing crops and the same tastes could be printed from an uncooked “food ink”. Traditional cafes and restaurants might lose business. Also, there are worries about the healthy value of printed food. Is it really possible to get what we need from food-based inks or something like that?

As we know, cooking and eating together with family and friends has long been a traditional and enjoyable activity. It is hard to imagine a world where the pleasure of cooking is dead and meals can be created at the touch of a button.
