I have always loved animals. Even before I learned to write, when I watched TV plays that showed animals from around the world that needed help, I drew the shapes of the phone numbers from the TV. And I told my mother, “We need to call here. They need help. We need to help them.”

For my fifth birthday party, my mom said that we could ask my friends to bring cat and dog food instead of birthday gifts.Then we could give them to the animal shelter (收容所).

When we went to the shelter, we told the worker, “We bring the animals here some cat and dog food. Could you open the back door so it will be easier to bring the food in?”

The shelter worker looked at us and you could tell she thought opening the back door wasn’t necessary. Finally, she said, “OK.” Then, she met us around back, and when we opened the car full of food, her mouth opened. “Wow! You do have pet food! What’s all this?”

I told her about the whole story, and she said. “You and your friends are so great! Thank you for being so kind.” We felt really proud. Even as little kids, we could do something big.

She let me go through the shelter. Holding cats, I felt my heart filled with love and happiness.

Sleep is something we all do, but we understand very little about it. In fact, we spend more than 30% of our lives sleeping! For some people, they fall asleep. But for others, they can’t get a good night’s rest.

Even scientists don’t know the reason of sleep. After over 50 years of studying sleep, Dr. William Dement said, “As far as I know, the only reason (原因) we need to sleep is that we get sleepy.”

The main reason of sleep is that the brain (大脑) needs it. Whose head doesn’t feel clearer after a good night’s sleep? But we don’t know how seeping helps the brain. Some studies shows the sleeping brain appears to be necessary for long-term memory (记忆). And it can make us forget unnecessary information. So sleep may help us remember what’s important and let us forget what’s not. Sleep can also help our health.

We should pay attention to the needs of our bodies, such as getting enough sleep. It’s important for us to have good sleep habits.

There are so many ways to exercise, both alone and with friends.     16     And there are so many of them to try!

Team sports make healthy competition (竞争). You can’t always win, but you can certainly try your best to win! When you don’t quite make it (体育精神)! Don’t be rude to other players or teams when you win. And don’t be sad if you lose.     19    

    20     You can make a lot of friends. When you join a sport team, it’s certain that you will know more people. You can also learn a lot about games and other people.

However, if you just want to exercise quietly, running and swimming are good choices.

One night of 2022, a red light came into Alan’s yard. Minutes later, an alien (外星人) like a plate came into his bedroom, Alan looked at the alien in surprise.     46     ugly the alien is! He kept saying something,     47     Alan couldn’t understand him at all.

Then, the alien took out a box. With the help of the box, they could talk with each other. The alien’s name is Zogol. He used     48     live on Mars, but recently (最近) he moved to another planet (行星).

“Goodbye! And I hope you’ll come again!” Alan said.
