When you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, them will become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory (记忆) works in the same way.
When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault (过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed, and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.

All plants and animals are connected and depend upon one another. These connections create a web of different types of life that are able to protect themselves from damage(损坏).
However, population growth and climate(气候) change are leading to less biodiversity(生态多样性) and putting humans in danger.
So what can we do to help protect biodiversity and our environment?
*Be an informed consumer(有见识的用户)
Avoid buying from companies that do damage(破坏) to the environment. Remember, companies will sell what people want to buy, so tell companies that you want products that do not hurt our planet.
*Follow the “Three Rs”
The less garbage(垃圾) you throw away, the less likely it is that natural habitats(栖息地) will be used for landfills(垃圾填埋). Try to follow the “Three Rs” to produce as little waste as possible.
Reduce(减少): Don’t buy products you don’t need. When you do buy things, try to make choices that lead to a smaller amount(量) of garbage. For example, buy things with a little bit of packaging(包装) or none at all.
Reuse: Throw fewer goods(货物) away by using things more than once. One easy example is taking a reusable bag to the grocery(杂货) store.
Recycle: When you do have to throw something away, recycle it so it can be made into something useful again.
*________________________
Fossil fuels(化石燃料) are bad for the environment. The climate change they cause also leads to habitat loss(丧失) for endangered animals. So reducing carbon emissions(碳排放) is one effective(有效的) way to protect biodiversity. You could start by using less energy: Walk or ride your bike instead of driving, and think about green energy like solar power(太阳能).

四、任务型阅读 添加题型下试题
There are many important qualities that can help a person have achievements and happiness. But there is only one that leads to long-term success in all sides of life—self-discipline(自律). According to a study, people with high self-control are happier because they are able to make correct decisions more easily. Self-discipline is a learned behavior. It requires practice in your day-to-day life. To improve your own self-discipline, test out these methods for getting better control.
Remove temptations(消除诱惑). Removing all temptations from your environment is the first step when working to improve your self-discipline. For example, if you want to improve your studies, turn off your cell phone and remove the mess-ups from your desk.
Eat on time and healthily. Studies have shown that low blood sugar often weakens a person’s willpower(意志力). In order to stay healthy, make sure that you eat well throughout the day with healthy snacks and meals.
Don’t wait for it to “feel right”. Improving your self-discipline means changing your habits, which can be uncomfortable. Breaking a bad habit and building a new habit require us to make active decisions. Keep doing and it will be better.
These methods will help you set up good habits and improve your self-control. All you need to do is to make simple changes to your daily routine(常规). Improving self-discipline will allow you to live a freer life by helping you make healthy choices. Give it a shot. Your happiness will thank you for it.
