NARRATOR: On the Graduation Day, everybody was dressed smartly in their graduation clothes. Big smiles were printed on their faces except for a person who seemed to just look around…

Jack: It’s okay. Graduation is just nothing. It’s just wearing a trencher cap（学士帽）on your head and get a roll（卷）of boring paper after studying for 4 years. I still have 4 cows and a small farm. I won’t die of hunger! Yes…but…The cows are thin; the working on the farm is hard and…I don’t want to just become a farmer. I regret what I have done and if only I could return to 4 years ago…

SCENE 2

NARRATOR: Jack was checking the letter in his hand and luckily, he was chosen by a university.

Jack: Oh yes! I know I can do it! Mom! Guess what?

Mother: What?

Jack: I have just received an offer from the university.

Mother: Really? Congratulations! What course is it?

Jack: Mom, don’t you think I sound like Michael Jackson?

Mother: OW! So, what has that got to do with the course?

Jack: Oh…

Mother: Okay, I get it! You are offered the music course, aren’t you?

Jack: You’re right, Mom!

When you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, them will become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory (记忆) works in the same way.

When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.

If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault (过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed, and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.

So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.

There are many important qualities that can help a person have achievements and happiness. But there is only one that leads to long-term success in all sides of life—self-discipline（自律）. According to a study, people with high self-control are happier because they are able to make correct decisions more easily. Self-discipline is a learned behavior. It requires practice in your day-to-day life. To improve your own self-discipline, test out these methods for getting better control.

Remove temptations（消除诱惑）. Removing all temptations from your environment is the first step when working to improve your self-discipline. For example, if you want to improve your studies, turn off your cell phone and remove the mess-ups from your desk.

Eat on time and healthily. Studies have shown that low blood sugar often weakens a person’s willpower（意志力）. In order to stay healthy, make sure that you eat well throughout the day with healthy snacks and meals.

Don’t wait for it to “feel right”. Improving your self-discipline means changing your habits, which can be uncomfortable. Breaking a bad habit and building a new habit require us to make active decisions. Keep doing and it will be better.

These methods will help you set up good habits and improve your self-control. All you need to do is to make simple changes to your daily routine（常规）. Improving self-discipline will allow you to live a freer life by helping you make healthy choices. Give it a shot. Your happiness will thank you for it.

On a winter afternoon, we took     41     English exam in the classroom. After the exam, we would enjoy our winter holiday. I didn’t worry a    42     the exam because I was good at English and I was the top student in my class. So I didn’t review English.
