I think most people have ambitions(志向). An ambition is ________ we want to do or want to have. A student’s ambition, for example, may be to ________ his or her exams and then get a good job. Many boys and girls love to watch TV. They spend many hours a day in front of the TV sets. But many parents let their children watch TV only in special (特定的) time.

TV shows are like books or movies. There are many kinds of TV shows, such as sitcoms, soap operas, sports shows, fashion shows, etc. A child can learn good things and bad things from them. Some shows help children to know the news all over the world. Children don’t have to go to the zoo to see animals. Boys and girls can see sitcoms, sports shows and game shows at home. Some shows teach children how to cook or how to use tools (工具).

Many boys and girls think it is fun to watch TV, but it is also fun to read books, to play games or to visit friends.

To save time, many Americans often buy fast food. On holidays, families enjoy nice meals at home. For example, on Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November, families come together for a dinner. Usually they enjoy a big turkey and pumpkin pies(南瓜馅饼).

The United States is famous for its fast food, such as hamburgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and ice creams. People can easily find fast food restaurants, such as McDonald’s(麦当劳) and Kentucky Fried Chicken(肯德基), in most of the big cities in the world.

There are many foreign restaurants in the USA. Chinese, Italian and French cooking are the most popular. People can buy foreign foods in these restaurants. These years, many people have paid more and more attention to(越来越关心) their health. They come to eat foods with little fat. Many of them are also worried because some people like to put something in the foods. This can make the foods good-looking, but it is not good for health.

Do you want to be in good health? Try to do the following things! You can become stronger.

 Drink eight cups of water every day. Water helps your body in many ways. If you feel thirsty, just have a cup of water.

 Don’t forget to eat your breakfast. Breakfast gives you everything your body needs for the morning, so do not forget your breakfast.

 Get enough calcium(钙). Your bones(骨头) need it. Milk has more calcium. You may also drink orange juice with calcium in it.

 Go for a walk every day after meals. Walking is good exercise, and people need exercise for good health. It’s better to walk after meals.

 Stretch for five minutes after siting for one or two hours. Stretching your arms and legs is good for your body.

 Use your brain every day. For example, you can do crossword puzzles or read a new book.

 Have a rest about twenty minutes when you are tired. You may do something different to have a break. For example, get up and walk. Or sit down to listen to music.

Everybody has his or her own hobby. Some people have more than one hobby.     26     Having a hobby can also help you make more friends easily. Here are some of popular hobbies. Are they your hobbies?

★ Collecting things Some people like to collect stamps.     27     Some people may even like to collect buttons(纽扣).

★ Writing novels or short stories Lots of young people like writing. Some people want to be famous writers. Lots of students want to be writers, too. Writing has many advantages.     28    

★ Playing sports Some people enjoy playing ball games. Some people like swimming. Some people like skating or skiing.     29     So lots of people enjoy playing sports.

★ Listening to music Many people like listening to music.     30     Most people enjoy quiet music because it can help them calm down.
