The door keeps opening.
Will you be with me, my dear Lucy,
When I look for candy
Down there in the dark, dark kitchen?
The wind keeps crying.
The door keeps shaking.
Will you be with me, my dear Lucy,
When I pick up my toy puppy
Out there on the high, high balcony?
Wish you could always be with me
And make them go away with your Do-Re-Me.
I remember last Halloween
They ran away when you started to sing,
“Dear Tommy, my little king,
Close your eyes and have a sweet dream.”
So please stay with me and sing
To stop them kicking the door, riding the wind,
And pulling me down to their house under the ground.
They’ll go away if you sing here for me,
In a voice that gets a black cat’s hair standing,
The strongest legs shaking, and the window glass breaking.
(ideas from Matthew Sweeney’s poem)

Do you still remember the debate (争论) between sweet and salty zong zi during Dragon Boat Festival? It seems that the differences between northerners and southerners have always been a popular topic among Chinese.
Now another difference has drawn wide attention: The way northerners and southerners shop for food at markets.
People from southern China might say they prefer to buy what they need for just one or two meals. It is normal for them to buy just half a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0.25 kilograms of beef at a time.
However, one may be laughed at if he does this in the north. Instead, buying vegetables and meat enough for a week is usual, reported China Daily.
Also, when you go to the market in the south, you can buy a small amount of fruit, such as an apple or pear. Shop owners even help you peel (削皮) and cut them. But hardly do shop owners in the north offer such service.
The difference could be because of the different climate.
Food can be kept for a long time in the north, as it is usually cold and dry there. Many northerners have the habit of stocking up (囤货) on food.
But because of the hot and wet weather in the south, southern Chinese prefer to buy just enough food for one meal or one day. Otherwise, the food may go bad.
Maybe these debates about differences help us Chinese know more about each other.

We humans live in different parts of the world, but we have the same “mother”. She gives us everything we need in our daily life. She is our Mother Earth. Everybody wants to live in a green city. A green city is a healthy and pleasant place for people to live in. It can get its energy from something like solar and wind power. Also, it is connected by clean public transportation.
The Hyperloop (超级高铁)
The hyperloop is a high-speed transportation. It works by having capsules (舱) with passengers in. The capsules run in the air. The hyperloop plans to run from Los Angeles to San Francisco. With an average speed of 962km per hour, it is only 35 minutes between the two cities. The solar panels (板) provide power to the hyperloop.

Smart Wheel is different from other electric bikes. It can be controlled through your smartphone’s bluetooth. The smartphone can show your speed, distance and travel time.
Solar Sidewalk (太阳能步道)
George Washington University made a special path in 2013. The path is about 9 square meters. It is covered with solar panels that can provide energy to power 450 LED lights. These lights can light the walkway after dark. The solar panel is also strong enough for people to walk on.

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap(消除代沟).
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise(和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

People can find jobs in many ways. Sometimes you can find a job easily, by walking into a local store and looking at its notice board. Local stores often have areas for people to put small signs telling the information that they need or they can provide. Such information includes looking after children or cleaning houses.
Another popular tool for finding a job is the Internet. For example, people around the world can use the Craigslist Web site to buy things or find a job. It is said that the site can receive two million new jobs each month.
There is one more way. College students like to find a job through a university. For example, students at the University of Texas can go to the job center to get help. Many college students like this way better.
Sometimes, some experts can also help people find a job. Susan Miller has her own company called California Job Services in Los Angeles. She says her company helps people find a job by first helping them understand their abilities, goals and interests. Then she provides them with methods to help them find the right job.
