James had a terrible toothache. Anything very hot or cold made the toothache ______. If James _______ anything sweet, the pain was unbearable(难以忍受的). Yesterday, the toothache kept him ______ all night.

James didn’t want to miss his classes this morning. So he took some medicine every hour to stop the pain. Howewer, _______ he tried to eat lunch, the tooth hurt so much that he knew he had to see the dentist. The dentist agreed to see James immediately.

The dentist ________ the tooth, and then he wanted to throw it away. “Please don’t,” James said. “Let me have it, please.”

“_______ do you want your bad tooth?” the dentist asked.“I’m going to take it home, put it in a bowl of hot honey and watch it suffer (受折磨),” James said.

Running is becoming popular these days. Many of us run for health. Doctors say many health problems come from these bad habits: eating and drinking too much, smoking and not taking enough exercise. Doctors tell us ,“Eat and drink less. Don’t smoke, and exercise more.”

Running is a good form of exercise because it helps build a strong heart. It also helps most people lose weight. One 68-year-old woman runs three times a week. “I love to eat,” she says. She runs to lose weight.

Running is good for health in other ways, too. Many runners say running keeps colds and other small health problems away. “Running is my doctor,” says one man,

Running can also help people to relax. So today men and women of all ages enjoy running.

A short time ago, a park in Selwood, England, looked terrible. The lake water was dirty, the seats were broken and the place was full of rubbish.

But now the park looks quite different, thanks to Michael Chambers, a 16-year-old student. Michael started a group called Park Rescue. Volunteers of the group used their free time to clean the park. They took away the rubbish and started cleaning the lake. They fixed a lot of the seats and bought some new tables. They also planted some flowers and 60 young trees.

Michael told people what they were doing in the park through the newspaper. In six months, about 120 more people joined Park Rescue. The group also organized concerts and raised money in the street. With these activities and with the help of some warm-hearted people, they have raised over £4,000.

“Birds start to come back to the park. The long-closed restaurant is going to open soon and that will be great. The park is going to become a place that people can enjoy,” Michael said “But we still have more work to do. We want to make a skate-boarding area (滑板区). And now we need some advice about cleaning the park.”

One day, a boy fought with one of his classmates.     37     “He is really bad and I hate him.” The boy said. The grandfather said,“Let me tell you a story. When I was a boy too, I sometimes hated others for what they did.     38     It doesn’t hurt (伤害) your enemy (敌人) but only hurt yourself.”

As the boy listened carefully, the grandfather went on, “There are always two tigers inside my heart. One is good and kind. He gets on well with everything around him.     39    .

He is full of anger (怒气). Even the smallest thing will make him angry. He fights with everyone all the time, and for no reason. He can’t think carefully because he always hates others.     40     They both try to control (控制) me.”

The boy looked into his grandfather’s eyes and asked, “Which tiger always controls you, grandfather?”

The old man said slowly in a serious voice, “    41    I always feed the good and kind tiger, so I never hate others and seldom get angry now.”
