Are you a good helper in the kitchen? Flynn McGarry, from the US, does more than that. The 15-year-old boy began cooking at the age of ten. And now he has his own restaurant.

McGarry practiced his cookery skills after school. He taught himself from books and the Internet. The boy really loves cooking. In his room, there are no video games but cooking tool. He turned his room into an experimental kitchen called Club Eureka.

Today, many famous people pay around $160 per person to eat in McGarry’s Club Eureka. The New York Times magazine described his food as “creative”.

As for the future, McGarry wants to open a Michelin-Starred restaurant. He hopes to make it one of the world’s 50 Best and “maybe top 5”.

It is reported that some developed countries have shipped broken parts of computes to China. Such a thing can be founded every day although it is against international laws. Last month Hong Kong officers found 131,000 kilograms of broken computers, TVs and phones send from Japan.

Things like these are called electronic waste, or e-waste. Dealing with them is not an easy job, because dangerous poison like mercury (汞) and lead (铅) can be found in them. Every time an old computer breaks down, it needs to be deal with safely. But at present, broken computer parts are usually buried. It may be hundreds of years before they are really goes in the earth.

Many places in China are polluted by e-waste. Guiyu in Guangdong province is one of them. This town is named as “the e-waste capital of the world”. It has to deal with 1.5 million kilograms of e-waste each year, from which it makes 75 million years. But it comes at a cost. Many of the poison in e-waste find their way into the environment. Plastic is burned outdoors and chemical water is poured into rivers, Greenpeace, an environmental group, has found the air, the earth and the rivers in Guiyu badly polluted.

The Chinese government wants the country to develop, but in a way that doesn’t do harm to the environment and people’s life. This year, China presents a new protection law, the strictest one we have ever had. Computer complies like Lenovo and Dell will be asked to take back their old computers. This is because the companies that make computers know best to deal with them safely. Hopefully, the problem with e-waste will be solved in near future.

When was the last time you gave or got a hug? Is hugging a sense of ritual (仪式感) in your family?     48     In Western countries, it is quite common to greet close friends or relatives with a hug.

You might hug your teammates after winning a basketball game. If one of your friends is having a bad day, you can hug him to cheer him up. Friends who haven’t seen each other for a long time usually hug each other when meeting.

    49     After coming to China, I’ve noticed that people here are generally more reluctant (不情愿的) to hug. My Chinese friends told me that hugging is considered to be very intimate (亲密的) in their culture. It usually only happens between people who are really close to each other, like couples.     50    

But people’s attitudes toward hugging can also change.

I remember watching a video story about a “hugging party” that was held in Shanghai. A local artist held the party, inviting strangers and asking them to hug each other.

    51     However, after the party, several of them changed their thoughts. They decided that hugging didn’t have to be awkward (尴尬的) and could actually be quite nice. So next time you see your mum or dad, give them a hug—see how it makes you feel.

I recently heard a story about a famous scientist. Because of his great achievements, he was thought to be more creative than the common person. When he     52    (ask) why he was able to do this, he gave the answer. It all came from an experience with his mother when he was about three years old. “I    53    (try) to get a bottle of milk from the fridge when I lost the bottle and it fell, spilling（溢出）the milk all over the floor—a sea of milk! I was frightened and I didn’t know what to do!” he said.

His mother heard the noise and got into the kitchen. “I    54    (consider) how to explain all this to you, mom.” he said. Instead of    55    (punish) him, she said, “Robert, what a great mess you have made! I    56    (not see) such a huge sea of milk before! Well, since the milk has already been spilled, would you like    57    (play) in the milk for a while? We     58    (clean) it up after that.” Then, he did so. After a few minutes, his mother said, “You know, Robert, whenever you    59    (make) a mess like this, finally you have to clean it up.” He used a sponge （海绵）and together they cleaned up the spilled milk.

His mother then said, “You know, we     60    (fail) in how to successfully carry a big milk bottle with two tiny hands just now. Let’s go out in the yard and fill the bottle with water to see if you     61    (discover) a way to carry it.” Then the little boy learned that if he grasped(抓紧) the bottle at the top with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it.
