John is a student in Guangming Primary School（小学）. He doesn’t like sports and he doesn’t like ________ homework. He often says to his teacher, “My homework is at home.” or “My homework is ________.”

October 11th is his ________ birthday, and luckily（幸运地）, John and his classmates ________ a school trip to a park that day. ________ teacher, Miss. Miller, takes her students there by train. Chinese is not easy. My mom and I are in the USA. She teaches the US students Chinese here. Her students always ask her, “Why are there no letters like A, B or C in Chinese? How can we learn Chinese?” Mom says, “Chinese characters（字）are fun and interesting.” She takes the word “zhi（智）” as an example（例子）. The top half is knowledge（知识）, and the bottom（底部）is day. If you get your knowledge day after day, you can be a clever man.

“dao（道）” is also an example. It can mean（意味、意思）the way in your life. “首” in Chinese means the first and very important thing. “辶” can mean walk. If you want to find the right way in your life, the first and important thing is that you need to walk out and see the world.

My mom’s students are surprised that every part（部分）of the Chinese characters has a meaning（意义）. After that, they think Chinese is great fun. They begin to like Chinese characters.

All people need water. Some people like coffee and some people like tea. What about you? There is one thing many people like. Its color is white. It helps children grow taller（长高）. What is it? It’s milk.

Many people think milk is good for their health. It has much vitamin D and calcium（钙）. A glass of milk helps us get a good night’s sleep, too. So, many students have milk every day.

But some scientists say that milk is not always good for people’s body. It can cause problems for their health, too. First, some people have much whole（全脂）milk, and then they get fat. Second, fat-free（脱脂）milk is not good to drink, so people put some sugar （加糖）in it. But too much sugar is not good for people’s health. Third, it is easy for some people to have fractured bones（骨折）because they have much milk.

“The best way for children to grow taller is to go out of the classroom and play in the sun,” Liu Ting, a teacher from a middle school says. That’s why many schools have P. E. classes and the “Sunshine Sports” every day.
