三、阅读理解 添加题型下试题

阅读理解-单选(约330词) | 适中(0.65)
文章大意:本文主要介绍了美国习语“to face the music”的来历和意义。

When someone says “Well, I guess I’ll have to go to face the music”, it does not mean he is planning to go to a concert. It is something far less pleasant, like being called in by your boss to explain why you did this or that, and why you did not do this or that. Sour music, indeed, but it has to be faced.

The phrase “to face the music” is familiar to every American, young and old. It is at least 100 years old. Where did the expression come from?

The first information comes from the American writer James Fennimore Cooper. He said in 1851 that the expression was first used by actors while waiting in the wings to go on stage. After they got their cue to go on, they often said, “It’s time to go to face the music.” And that is exactly what they did—face the orchestra (交响乐团) which was just below the stage.

An actor might be frightened or nervous as he moved on to the stage in front of the audience that might be friendly or perhaps unfriendly, especially if he forgot his lines. But he had to go out.

So, “to face the music” came to mean having to go through something, no matter how unpleasant the experience might be, because you knew you had no choice.

The other explanation comes from the army. Men had to face inspection (检阅)by their leader. The soldiers worried about how well they looked. Was their equipment(装备)clean—shiny enough to pass inspection? Still, the men had to go out, and face the music of the band, as well as the inspection. What else could they do?

根据短文内容,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选择最恰当的答案。

A.his performance might not satisfy most of the audience
B.he might not remember what he should say on stage

D.most of the audience might be his friends
24. “To face the music” is also used to mean that soldiers were not willing ________.

25. The passage is mainly about ________.
A.the meaning of the phrase “to face the music”B.how to deal with something unpleasant

Since last December, there have been lots of COVID-19(新冠肺炎)cases both in and out of China. It’s not the first time for humans to fight with Viruses. Viruses have brought big trouble to humans, because they may cause widespread disease and death.

What are they? Viruses are considered to be non-living organisms (有机物 ). They can infect animals, plants and humans, making them sick. They have materials like DNA and are protected by a kind of special skin.

Viruses can’t reproduce(繁殖) on their own. Instead, they break in the cells( 细胞) of living organisms to reproduce, spread and take over. But the basic question is, “Where did viruses first come from?” Until now, no clear explanation for this question. “It is difficult to find out where viruses first came from,” Ed Rybicki, a virologist at the university of Cape Town in South Africa, told Scientific American, “because viruses don’t leave fossils (化石) and because it is difficult to study the ways they use to make copies of themselves within the cells they’ve broken in.” Understanding where they came from means fully understanding the history of their hosts(宿主) –not only humans, but also plants and other animals, which is a difficult task, says Nature.

UK physicist Isaac Newton once said, “Nature is pleased with simplicity and nature is no dummy (傻子).” Indeed, mother nature can provide almost everything humans need if we follow her rules. But if we break the rules, she is likely to be cruel and mad at us. It is believed that the outbreak of COVID-19 is a good example. Humans try to change mother nature. They use more land to make buildings, catch some wild animals to meet their own needs. Humans gradually throw our mother nature out of balance( 平衡). For example, cutting a large number of forests leads to global(全球的) warming.

Although we don’t know exactly what first caused the COVID-19 outbreak, Brian Lamacraft at Medium said it’s time for people to “think carefully about our relationship with our mother nature” and “reconnect with this world and everything that we’ve been given”. After all, according to US poet Gary Snyder, “Nature is not the place to visit. It’s our home.”

31. What can we learn about viruses from the article?
A.They only make animals and plants sick.
B.They are really small living organisms.
C.They didn’t bring big trouble to humans before 2020.
D.They can’t reproduce on their own.
32. Why is it difficult to find out where viruses first came from?
A.Because viruses leave lots of fossils.
B.Because it is difficult to study the ways they use to make copies of themselves.
C.Because they don’t have DNA.
D.Because mother nature protects them.
33. The underlined word “infect” in the second paragraph probably means “_________”.
A.使...受伤B.使...感染C.使...伤心D.使...丑陋
34. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.It is good for humans to change mother nature.
B.Only cutting trees leads to global warming.
C.If humans break the balance of nature, mother nature will be mad at us.
D.Humans use technology to improve their lives.
35. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this article?
A.To tell people viruses are easy to fight with.
B.To explain what led to the COVID-19 outbreak.
C.To advise humans to think carefully about their relationship with mother nature
D.To stop the wildlife trade around the world.
