I’m Jacie and I’m 15 years old. I help at a dog shelter (收容所). This is what I do at the shelter every day.

5:30 pm

The first thing I do, after saying hi to the animals, is cleaning their living areas. I’m happy to do anything to help the animals.

6:00 pm

Next, I take some dogs out to an open area. This is a place for me to get some exercise. They also get some snacks (小吃).

7:00 pm

After the exercise, it’s time to eat dinner. Well, not for me! I give food and water to all the dogs.

7:30 pm

I make sure all of the dogs are back in their living areas and then I go home.

The dogs are very good animals and I hope they will find homes soon. If you loved dogs, why not take one home?

In England nobody under eighteen years old is allowed (允许) to drink in a bar (酒吧).

Mr. Thompson often went to a bar near his house. But he never took his son, Tom, because he was too young. Then when Tom had his eighteenth birthday, Mr. Thompson took him to his usual bar for the first time. They drank for an hour. Tom drank a bit. Then Mr. Thompson said to his son, “Now, Tom, I want to teach you a useful (有用的) lesson. How do you know when you’ve had enough (足够的)? Well, I’ll tell you. Do you see those two lights(灯) at the end of the bar? When they seem (好像) to become four, you’ve had enough and should(应该) go home.”

“But, Dad,” said Tom, “I can only see one light at the end of the bar.”

How long would it take you to run 5, 000 meters? Li Yiben, 80 years old, ran 5, 000 meters in 28 minutes and 6 seconds.

Li did it in a race in Huainan, Anhui Province on 3rd April. There were six runners in his group. The other five were three men with 50—60 years old and two women with 30 years old. Li was the oldest but he finished the race third.

“This is tough. I have never worked so hard,” said Li after the race.

Li served in the military (在军队) when he was young. In 1968, he left the military and found a new job. Li had to go over 20 km from home to work. That’s when he was interested in running. Li ran to work every two or three days. That made him a great runner.

After he left work in 1995, Li spent more time running. In 1998, Li ran a 100 km marathon. He ran in the National Athletics Championships (全国锦标赛) in 1999. One year later, he went to the Asia Athletics Championships (亚锦赛) in India.

In the following years, Li kept running. “Running makes me feel younger,” said Li.
