Brian loved watching comedies (喜剧) and telling funny stories and he hoped to become a comedy actor one day.

When he heard that there would be a talent show at his school, Brian decided to join in it. ________ some students laughed at (嘲笑) him. “You can’t be a comedy actor,” Ken, one of ________ classmates, said to him, “No one will like what you do,” another boy also said to him.

Brian didn’t know why they were not friendly ________ him. For some time, he thought about giving up the ________ . But he remembered how much his friends liked his ________, and also his teachers said he was very funny. So he decided to get ________ for the show.

Brian did a great job at the talent show. His teachers and friends were happy for him. Even so, Ken told Brian that he was not funny, and that he would never be ________. Brian didn’t know why Ken said that again, but he kept on working hard for his dream.

As the years went on, Brian met more people like Ken. “You will do a ________ job,” they said to him. Luckily, most people encouraged (鼓励) him.

Now Brian is a comedy ________! He is doing what he ________ best. He never feels unhappy because of those unkind people now!

A few years ago, my young sons, Sam, Jerry and Alex, joined in a bike competition (比赛) in a town far from our home. As their father was busy, I drove them to the competition.

We were quite new to the town and didn’t know anyone there. But soon after arriving, a woman gave me a chair to sit in. In the afternoon, we talked happily. Her name was Bev and she lived there with her sons Jim and Carl.

Unluckily, in one of the last races, my youngest son, Alex, had an accident. He cried and cried, so I ran to him. He badly broke his arm. Just before I decided to take Alex to hospital, I saw a familiar (熟悉的) face. It was Bev. She saw I was Scared (受惊吓) by the accident and my worry of having two other children to care for in an unfamiliar town.

“You can take him to the hospital,” Bev said. “I’ll take the other two children home with my boys. Here is my phone number. I live not far from the town hospital.”

Bev was like an angel (天使). I will never forget her kindness in taking two other children off my hands, so I could give my injured (受伤的) child the best care.

Our friendship (友谊) started that day, and we are still good friends now.
