It’s not necessary to be the same. I like to have friends who are different from me. My best friend Leo is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but Leo is more athletic (健壮的) than me. He always beats (打败) me at tennis. | |

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a man named Chen Shi. He was a kind man. He always treated others kindly. His friends and neighbors all said that Chen Shi was kinder than any other person in the world.
One year, there was a serious famine (饥荒) in Henan Province. Many people had nothing to eat. One night, a man went into Chen Shi’s room quietly. He hid himself on the beam (梁木) and waited for Chen Shi to fall asleep. He thought he could steal (偷) something while Chen Shi was sleeping.
Chen Shi found the man on the beam. He asked his family to go into his room and said to them seriously, “Nobody is born bad. It is only because nobody tells them what they shouldn’t do and they are not strict with themselves. Then they have bad habits and turn bad. If someone usually does bad things, it will be hard for him to be a good man. The gentleman on the beam is such a man.”
The man heard Chen Shi’s words. He knew that he was wrong. He jumped down from the beam and knelt (下跪) in front of Chen Shi and said sorry.

A study showed that people born (出生) in the Netherlands are some of the tallest in the world, but the Dutch people born in 2001 are shorter than those born in 1980. 21-year-old Dutch men now are an average (平均) of 182.9 cm tall, and women are on average 169.3 cm tall. However, men born in 2001 are on average 1 cm shorter than the men born in 1980 and women are 1.4 cm shorter. The result of the study was from 719,000 Dutch people aged between 19 and 60.
“We became taller and taller over the last century (世纪), but since 1980 the growth (增长) has stopped,” the study said. “Immigration (移民) and food are the reasons behind this.”
Those changes to the country are often shorter than the average Dutch people. That is to say, they probably have shorter children. The study also showed that height growth slowed down for those parents and grandparents both born in the Netherlands. However, people in the Netherlands are still the tallest in the world.
Though Dutch people are very tall now, they weren’t always tall in the past. In fact, at the start of the 19th century, they were small and only started to get taller in the 1840s. Just a century ago, it was the United States, Norway, Sweden and Denmark that had the tallest people. The Dutch became the tallest in the late 1950s.

B.The Dutch are the fifth tallest in Europe. |
C.The Dutch stopped getting taller after the 1840s. |
D.The Dutch became the tallest about 70 years ago. |
A.Why the Dutch people are so tall. | B.Where the Dutch people came from. |
C.How the Dutch people got taller and taller. | D.What the Dutch people think of getting taller. |
