Last Sunday morning, four students talked about the topic (话题) “What do you want to do when you grow up” at the class meeting.

Wang Li	I want to be a movie director (导演). And I want to make movies more creative and exciting. Maybe you will see my great movies many years later. And I’m sure you will like them very much.
Eric	I want to be an actor because I love acting. I enjoy doing it, and I always perform with the DVD on. I love doing this and if it can’t come true, I’m going to keep on acting.
Thomas	When I grow up, I want to be a dentist because I’m very interested in dentistry. I also want to make my mom and dad proud (自豪的). But I need enough money to get the education.
Ray	I am going to be a computer programmer. Why? Because I like to work on computers. I like surfing the Internet, and I know the job can help me make a lot of money for my family. We are going to live in a big house with my pets—a cat and a dog.

You won’t go to the kitchen when you are hungry. You will give orders to the kitchen robot. The robot will cook the food for you in a few minutes. Then it will bring it to you.

In the kitchen you will find a special food machine. The food machine will tell you what your body needs. It will help you eat healthily. The food machine will be connected with the kitchen robot. The robot can get messages from the food machine.

After having a meal, you can go to your home office. You will work at home and you don’t need to go out to work any more.

You will have a special information screen. You can get any information on the screen. When you receive a message from a friend in other places, your information screen will be turned on automatically (自动地). Your friend’s face appears on the screen. Then you can talk to your friend easily.

We all love to make resolutions at the beginning of the New Year. Do you know what a resolution is?     31     We always make promises to other people, also, to ourselves. We even write down our resolutions and plans for the coming year.     32    

    33     As a student, we always promise our parents that we will study hard to get better results in the new year. So we promise ourselves we must find more time to study. We also say we are going to take up a hobby like painting or playing ping-pong, or learn to play the guitar. To get high grades in P.E., we must run every day.

Although we can make so many resolutions, we hardly ever keep them.     34     Sometimes the resolutions may be too difficult to keep. Sometimes we just forget about them.

But we must know that making resolutions is the key to doing everything well.     35     So, once we have made up our minds, we must not be afraid of difficult problems and keep on doing so.
