It’s been five years since I came to America. The year before I arrived, every weekend I was woken up by a piece of music called “Spring River in the Flower Moon Night” (《春江花月夜》), ________ by my mother on a guzheng.

My mom liked the beauty of Chinese traditional music very much ________ she never had the chance to learn a(n) ________. In 2019, she got a guzheng from a friend and ________ practiced playing when she had spare time. Sometimes when I miss her, I search for the songs she used to play on the Internet. I expected ________ them here in Boston.

Earlier this year, as I looked ________ a new house to live, I met Mr. Lin, the director of the Boston Musicians Community. At Lin’s house, I heard the ________ of the erhu for the first time. It was beautiful and powerful—it ________ brought me back to my hometown in China.

Teaching is also part of Lin’s daily life. As a teacher, he passed on his love of the erhu to his ________. I went to one of Lin’s classes and met a 9-year-old boy. I asked him ________ he chose to learn the erhu. “It’s much ________ to learn than the violin,” he said. “Perhaps he hasn’t really started to understand the beauty of the erhu as a little kid. There are so many beautiful things in Chinese ________, the music, the language and the art. So I just try my best to let him have a place to discover it. It’s my job.” Mr. Lin said.

Besides the subjects at school, do you have any idea of some activities for the coming term? We do a survey from students in Sunshine Middle School. Almost all students show great interest in doing sports. Their opinions are collected. Here is the graph（图表）of the results.

There were two men who lived next to each other. One of them was a teacher and the other was an insurance agent (保险代理人). Both of them had planted many different plants in their gardens. The teacher seldom watered his plants and didn’t pay a lot of attention to them. But his neighbor was very careful with his plants and watered them often.

The teacher’s plants were small, but still okay, while the insurance agent’s plants were much bigger and greener. One night, both of the neighbors came out to check on their gardens. The insurance agent saw that his plants were totally damaged (破坏). But the teacher’s plants were not damaged at all but stood firmly.

The insurance agent was surprised. He went to ask the teacher for help. “We both grew the same plants and I cared for my plants better than you did. How could your plants still be okay?”

The teacher smiled and said, “Because you gave your plants too much attention. You made it too easy for them to grow. I gave my plants just a little bit of water, so their roots had to grow deeper to absorb (吸收) more water. That is why my plants didn’t die.”

There are 56 ethnic (民族的) groups in China, including the Han people who make up 90% of the total population. Each group has its own culture and traditions. Some ethnic groups speak their own languages and have their own styles of dress, too.

Mongolians live in northern China. They are known for traveling on horses and camels. They eat a lot of meat and drink salty tea. Mongolians have many skills, especially they are very good at hunting and horse racing.

Tibetans live in very high mountainous areas in southwestern China. Tibetans have a special tradition of presenting Hada, a long piece of silk, to their dear friends.

The Uygur live in northwestern China. They live in the Land of Fruit. It’s known worldwide for its production of grapes and the Hami melons.

The Hui people live in more central China, close to the north. They practice Islam (伊斯兰教), and many of them are direct descendants (后代) of Silk road travelers.

The Manchu people live in northeastern China. They took control of the central plain (平原) of China in 1644 and ruled the country until 1911.

There are other important ethnic groups, including the Zhuang, the Yi, the Miao and so on. Most of them are musical and well known for songs and dances.

Many people today like exercise. Some like to run and some like to walk. Others dance or play balls. So there are many exercises.     46    

You may like to run. When you do, take care of your feet.     47    And if you like to run on roads, you must watch out for cars.

    48     You may take a long walk in the park. You can go with a friend. The two of you may have a great time. And if you like to swim, you must always take care when you are in the water.

    49     “The best time to exercise is early in the morning.” Morning is a good time to exercise, but it may not be good for you. Afternoon or evening is OK for you if you enjoy the feeling of getting healthier when you do sports. You can choose any time to exercise.     50     “If you drink water, when you exercise, you will feel tired.” You must have some water during breaks when you exercise. And after exercising, you had better have enough water with sugar or salt to make yourself energetic.

Lord Pingyuan was from the State of Zhao. At that time, Zhao was     56     (weak) than Qin, so Qin wanted to control Zhao. Lord Pingyuan decided to ask the State of Chu     57     help. He wanted to pick twenty talented people to go with him. But he could only find nineteen people. Soon, a man     58     (call) Mao Sui recommended (推荐) himself. “Please believe me,” Mao Sui said with a confident smile     59     his face. Finally Lord Pingyuan let Mao Sui join them.

Lord Pingyuan     60     (lead) these twenty men to the State of Chu. However, the king didn’t want to help Zhao. Mao Sui was so brave     61     he walked to the king with a sword (剑) in his hand. The sword was     62     (shine) bright and the king was shocked and had to listen to Mao Sui. Mao Sui explained the     63     (important) of the friendship between Chu     64     Zhao. Finally, the king agreed to help Zhao. The good news excited all the people of Zhao and Mao Sui became a hero of the state. This story reminds us that we should always believe in     65     (our) like Mao Sui. Don’t hide your talents and show yourself to others.
