文章大意:本文介绍了两种快速阅读的方法。
阅读文章,回答下列小题。
Reading should be part of your life. But the problem is that there’s too much to read these days and too little time to read every word of it. There are hundreds of skills to help you read more quickly. Here are two skills that I think are very good.
Preview—if it’s long and hard. Previewing is very useful for getting a general (总的) idea of heavy reading like long magazine articles and reports. You can read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully, and then you can only read the first sentence of the other paragraphs (段落).
Skim—if it’s short and easy. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading like popular magazines or the sports, stars and movies of your daily paper.
While skimming, get your eyes to move fast and sweep them across each line. You can pick up only a few key words in each line. Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same news, but usually we won’t get very different ideas of what it is all about.
4. What should you do if you want to read a long article quickly?
A.Read every word of it.
B.Read all the paragraphs.
C.Pick up a few key words in each line.
D.Read the first two and the last two paragraphs carefully.
5. The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to (指) _______.
A.skimmingB.previewingC.the wordsD.the news
6. If you read a simple (简单的) article, which reading skill is better to get the general idea?
A.Previewing.B.Skimming.
C.Reading carefully.D.Sweeping each word.
7. The best title (标题) for the passage may be “_______”.
A.Reading is part of lifeB.Previewing and skimming
C.Reading problemsD.Reading skills

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了美国高中学校的体育课情况,包括上课时长,学习方式以及学习内容等。

Have you ever wondered what P.E. classes are like in other countries? In China, P.E. tests are necessary for students to graduate (毕业) from both middle school and high school. To get good grades on the P.E. tests, Chinese students will need to practice running as well as doing sit-ups and pull-ups (引体向上). However, this is not the way that P.E. classes work in US high schools.

In my high school, we are asked to take two terms of P.E. to graduate. We play real sports during P.E. classes, such as basketball and volleyball. There are also some other typical American sports that we often play, such as football and baseball.

I didn’t know the rules of football and baseball when I first came to the US. The teacher let me sit on the sidelines and watch how other students played them in order to let me find out the rules.

We also learn some useful life skills in P.E. classes. Last year, I learned how to do CPR (心肺复苏), which is a life-saving skill. We were also taught how to give first aid to someone who is in danger. These skills are a large part of the final grade for the P.E. class in my high school. Self-defense (自卫) is taught in P.E. class as well. This includes some tae kwon do (跆拳道) and karate (空手道) skills, as well as Chinese kung fu. It is practical.

8. Our Chinese students need to pass _____ test to graduate from secondary school.
A.runningB.basketball
C.volleyballD.Chinese kung fu
9. US high school students have to take _____ of P.E. in order to graduate.
A.two weeksB.two monthsC.two termsD.two years
10. How did the writer learn the rules of some typical American sports?
A.His teacher taught him.
B.He learned by watching the games.
C.His classmates helped him.
D.He learned from the sports books.
11. Which of the following is TRUE about P.E. classes in US high schools?
A.Students can choose to learn life skills.
B.Students play real sports and practice running.
C.Students hardly learn Chinese kung fu and karate.
D.Students can learn CPR and other life-saving skills.
12. In which part of a newspaper would you most probably read the passage?
A.Science Study.B.Health Care.
C.Sports World.D.School Time.

Music and Behavior

There did you go yesterday? Did you hear music at any of those place Today most stores and restaurants play music. You might even hear music in an office or on a farm. Scientists believe that music changes the way people behave (表现).
According to some scientists, the sound of western classical (古典的) music makes people feel richer. When a restaurant plays classical music, people spend more money on food and drinks. When the restaurant plays modern music, people spend less money. Without background music, people spend even less. Scientists also believe that loud, fast music makes people eat faster. In fact, people chew (咀嚼) their food faster when the music gets faster. Some restaurants play fast music during busy hours. This gets people to eat faster and leave more quickly. In this way, restaurants can make more money.
