My dad lost his job a few years ago. At the time, I thought it didn’t matter much, but I was wrong. That event changed my life.

Dad said we had to make some changes. Mom explained that I would have to stop taking dance lessons for a while. My brother Kenny couldn’t go to the summer camp, either. And we would have to save some money by cutting out unnecessary things.

He even studied harder in college and got a scholarship (奖学金). As a middle school student, I couldn’t find a part-time job like my brother. I wanted to help, so I took out all the money I had saved to help our family pull through. As my mom was busy doing the job, I took on the responsibility of doing housework. Though it was hard for us, no one gave up and we encouraged each other.

After a few months, Dad found a job in the city Dad thanked us for helping out. He said, “We all came together as a family.”

文章大意:本文介绍狗有“分离焦虑”,并给出了建议。

It’s a Saturday morning. You rush through breakfast, walk the dog, and then get to soccer practice on time. A few hours later, you return home, only to find that the dog has made your bedroom untidy. Your clothes are on the floor. Your favorite sports shoes are in poor condition.

Before you get angry, stop and think. Your dog wasn’t misbehaving (捣蛋) just for the fun of it. And he wasn’t punishing you for leaving. Some dogs just feel nervous when they are left alone. It’s called separation anxiety.

Think of it this way: Dogs can’t ask where you’re going or when you’ll be back. They can’t call you on the phone. All they know is that they want to be with you. Since you’re not there, they need to find you. Dogs may suddenly develop separation anxiety. But with practice and patience, you can teach your dog to be comfortable being left alone. Put on your jacket, and then sit back down. Open and close the door, and then sit down. After a while, walk out the door 10 seconds, then 20, then a minute and so on. Little by little your dog will learn that when you leave, you will return.

Besides, you can also try the following ways:

●Teach your dog a word or an action that you use every time you leave, which tells your dog you’ll be back.

●Help comfort your dog by leaving a piece of clothing that smells like you.

●Before you leave, give your dog a toy. It will keep him busy while you’re away.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,文章介绍了青少年如果悲伤过度,建议寻求科学的治疗。

Everyone gets sad. Sad feelings can happen pretty often. More than half of teenagers go through a sad period at least once a month.

16     However, feelings of sadness usually don’t last very long—a few hours, or maybe a day or two.

When you’re sad, the world seems dark and unfriendly. Many times, you cry, and it’s hard to stop.     17     When sadness starts to go away, it feels like a heavy blanket is being lifted from your heart.

If sad feelings go on for too long, it’s called depression (抑郁症). Children who have depression may not know it. Often, it’s a parent or a teacher who notices changes in children’s behavior.

When depression happens, it’s very important for children to receive treatment.     18     Sometimes treatment includes talking to someone who knows all about depression. Sometimes it means taking medicine.     19

If you think you have depression, or you just have sadness that simply will not go away, it is important to talk to an adult about it.     20     Many cities also have mental health hot lines that are listed in the phone book. There is always somebody who can help.
