When Juliet was a child, she often went to the city park and played with her friends. On a Saturday morning, when Juliet came to the park with her mom, she looked around and felt very ________.

I’m Kevin, a student of Grade 8. Most of my friends walk to school, but I like to ride my bike each day. I wake up at 7:00. After I wash my face and eat breakfast, I do exercise.

I take my bike, hop (跳) onto it and ride to school at 7:30. “See you later,” I say.

I pass my friends when I ride by. “Hi, Kevin!” they call when I pass. Mary does not want to ride with me. She does not like to wear a schoolbag. She likes to carry her books in her arms when she walks. She likes to kick the autumn leaves. But she likes to look at the flowers best.

Joey was happy because he had many special friends—four squirrels (松鼠), two rabbits, and many colorful birds. At the mealtime, these wild animals came near to the family and they would feed these special friends.

In the large yard stood ten trees of different sizes. One day, while Joey was playing with his sister under the trees, he noticed that a tree trunk (树干) had a sad look. He ran into the house to tell his mom about it. She told Joey to find the reason why it was sad.

So Joey went into the yard, ran to the sad tree and asked, “Why are you unhappy?”

“I am the smallest tree around. The birds don’t fly to me. The rabbits don’t eat grass under me. The squirrels don’t climb to my top. Nobody needs me or loves me,” said the sad tree.

After knowing the reason, the family had a meeting. Joey wanted to make some seats under the sad tree. The family would sit under the tree and the tree wouldn’t feel sad any more. Joey’s father said he could help and he started to make the seats.

When Joey told his special friends the tree was sad, they decided to help make the sad tree happy again.

Early the next morning, when Joey woke up, he noticed birds singing happily in the little tree and saw squirrels running up and down in it. Rabbits were eating the fresh grass around the tree. The little tree was happy again.

Joey ran inside to tell the good news to his family. Joey’s mother and father went into the yard and saw the happy tree.

The trip will become interesting and colorful. You can enjoy many kinds of services during the trip. If you want to see what happened in the Ming Dynasty or the first Olympic Games, you can just wear a special headset or glasses.

My mom is a tour guide. She knows a lot about the mangrove swamp (红树林沼泽地). She loves to show people the beautiful animals that live there. The mangroves are home to many animals, such as birds, butterflies and snakes.     57     The mangroves also protect us from wind, waves and floods (浪潮与水灾).

    58     These changes bring lots of worries to more and more people. New neighborhoods (社区) were built last year and the year before.
