Have you ever seen “dopamine (多巴胺) dressing” on the Internet? It’s one of the most popular fashion styles for 2023.

Dopamine dressing was first created by a US fashion psychologist (心理学家) Karen, he suggested that this style is dressing for joy. Through brightness and purity of colors.

Science showed long ago that different colors can influence people. They could make us feel warmer or cooler and also influence our feelings. For example, bright colors can make people feel happy while colors like black and grey may make people feel ______.

In the last few years, COVID—19 has put everything into question. “Usually, we are dressing for reasons such as the weather, during the pandemic (疫情), there was a change. Since no one was around to tell you what to wear.

Now, many people take this style to fight against bad feelings and show themselves. “I have seen shy people put on colorful clothes and become free. Their whole mood changes when they wear clothes that show who they really are.” Karen said.

William Wilkie Collins (1824—1889) was an English short-story writer. Most of his stories were seen in magazines. He was good at making just enough suspense (悬念) to keep the readers interested in the following part in the next week’s magazine. Make no mistake—The Moonstone is not a “short” story. Nearly three times as long as a detective novel, it will take some time to get to the bottom of it.

But that does not make it boring. In fact, it just adds to its complicated plots. Told through 11 different voices, Wilkie Collins’ novel is a classic mystery that will leave you guessing and guessing again until the final pages. Written in 1868, using only what they know. That means the reader is always filling in the gaps as the story goes on, wanting to know what happens next.

The story is about a large, yellow diamond called the moonstone. The stone is very sacred (神圣的) in India. It was first stolen from India in 1799. It finds its way to a young English girl named Rachel about 50 years later. But on the night of her 18th birthday, it is stolen again!

From there the reader is taken on a crazy journey, through the eyes of all the different characters and suspects. That means suspects changes from character to character. For example, first you think the waitress is the thief, but she is soon found dead and a new character is suspected of stealing the diamond.

The story also touches on the history between India and England. While the English are wondering who stole “their” diamond, the Indians are angry because the English stole it from them first. So, who stole the diamond? Why not read it and find out!

When my friend first suggested we should join the new Tai Chi Club at school, I hesitated (犹豫). I always believed tai chi was for old people.

The first few tai chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves really made me interested. But after that, I found myself bored from doing the same moves over and over again. Luckily, my coach taught me how to relax myself and focus (关注) on peace of mind while doing it. With these in mind, I found my balance slowly improved and I was able to do more difficult moves. My love for tai chi returned stronger than ever.

In time, I began to look into the Chinese culture behind tai chi. I discovered that playing tai chi is to keep the balance of yin and yang in the body through opposite movements: forwards and backwards, up and down, breathing in and breathing out. Finally, tai chi brings about body balance and mind peace.

After taking tai chi classes, however, I had to say that I had been wrong about tai chi. It was amazing! A year of practising tai chi has had a good influence on my everyday life. I sleep better at night, and I am more lively during the day. I’m sure I will continue to practise tai chi.
