On March 3, 2023, members of a girls’ lion dance team were practicing moves of a lion dance at a community activity center in Guangzhou.

Since it was set up in July 2019, the girls’ lion dance team has won many prizes at different lion dance competitions.

The team is part of the “Hexingtang” lion dance troupe (表演团) which was set up in the 1980s. Before 2018, all the performers of the troupe were male (男性的). In 2018, six girls joined the troupe.

Zhong Ziying, a middle school student, is one of the team’s best lion dancers. Zhong is the first girl in her family to learn the lion dance. Other girls on the team said they had watched male performers performing since their childhood, but none of them had expected they themselves could become lion dance performers one day.

The girls started to go out to put on performances on the first day of the Chinese New Year of 2019. At first, they were not acknowledged by local villagers. But they didn’t give up and practiced hard. The team began taking part in competitions in July 2021 and won first place in several competitions. With these achievements, the girls finally got the villagers’ support.

To stay in the team, the girls must receive strict training. The team once had over 20 members, but now there are fewer than 20, with the youngest one just 6 years old. 文章大意:本文主要讲述了由于气候变化导致的动物体型缩小。

Humans are taller and taller, while some animals become smaller. Is it a strange fact? A study found 52 kinds of birds have become smaller. “This is because of climate (气候) change,” said the scientists who did the study.

The shrinking (萎缩) in size follows a rule in nature called Bergmann’s Rule. The rule says that animals in cooler areas are usually larger than those in warmer areas. Large animals are able to keep warm in cold weather. That’s why animals in cold areas are larger.

As global warming affects (影响) the Earth, animals have to deal with rising temperatures. Some of them become smaller. This came to light when scientists studied over 70,000 kinds of birds over a 38-year period. They discovered some common birds were shrinking in size. Studies on deer, insects and fish also showed similar results.

What does this mean for these animals? Of course the Earth has been through cycles of warming and cooling. And many animals have changed to keep up with the changes of the environment in order to survive (幸存). The difference is now the cycle is happening faster than before. So, animals may not be able to change fast enough.

Besides, when animals become smaller, other things will get affected. When an animal’s body is smaller, it may not be able to give birth to as many young babies as before. This may affect the population. Water dependent animals like frogs may dry out faster during the drought (干旱). As they become smaller, their ability to hold water may weaken.

It is possible that scientists haven’t yet fully understood how changes in size may affect the ability of animals to survive. This shows the bigger problem with climate change—we are not always able to know what will happen when the Earth’s temperature keeps rising. And this is the real danger.

8. The writer mentions a study in the first paragraph to ________.
A.introduce a subjectB.solve a mysteryC.discuss a program
9. What do we know from Paragraph 2?
A.Animals living in warm places are usually big.
B.Animals living in cold places are usually small.
C.The larger the animal is, the better it will keep warm.

①Their ability to survive may be affected.
②They can’t give birth to young babies.
③They may have fewer babies than before.
④Their populations may fall.
A.①②③B.①③④C.①②④
11. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the rising temperature?

Colors are important in people’s lives. They can influence a person’s feelings and actions. Among all colors, blue is the most common favorite color of people around the world.     12

Color psychology (心理学) tells us the answer. Blue can give us a feeling of relaxation and it is often described as peaceful. It is often used in offices, because research has shown that people are more creative when working in blue rooms.     13     Consider how blue is used in language: blue Monday, a Monday on which you feel unhappy.

Although blue is one of the most popular colors, it is also one of the least appetizing (开胃的) colors.     14     Why? Food that is blue usually means it is poisonous (有毒的) or has gone bad. So humans naturally avoid eating food related to blue.

Of course, people’s feelings about the color blue are not the same. They are highly personal. While some people find blue to be a sad color, others may regard it as relaxing or inspiring. This also has to do with personal experiences. If you connect the color blue with a lively friend, you might see it as a high-energy color that leaves you a sense of excitement.

15     In India, for example, blue is a symbol of truth and love. In the United States, it is traditional for a woman to wear “something blue” when she gets married. For them, blue means loyalty (忠诚).

A.Blue is one of the most popular colors.
B.However, it can also create a feeling of sadness.
C.Then how does the color blue make people feel?
D.Cultural differences play a role in how people feel about blue, too.
E.Those who want to lose weight are advised to eat their food off a blue plate.
